Cris Cyborg (12-1) was the topic of conversation in a recent interview with UFC Women’s bantamweight champion “Rowdy” Ronda Rousey (10-0). Rousey was quoted for saying that she could beat Cyborg “even if she was on drugs.”
Ronda verbally jabbed the Invicta FC Women’s featherweight champion based on her past with steroid abuse. In 2011 Cyborg tested positive for that anabolic steroid known as stanozolol and had her fighting license suspended for a year.
Cris was given the chance to retaliate in a recent interview done with MMAFighting.com and this is how the Invicta FC champ responded to Rousey’s comments which she made in her recent trip to Rio De Janeiro:
What she says means nothing to me,” Cyborg said. “A person is visiting my country and trying to defame me with my fans to get attention shows you how uneducated she is. She’s a low-level person. She feels she has to step on someone in order to rise.”
Cyborg is a native of Brazil where she began her fighting career. She lost her first bout but rebounded to win her next 14 in a row minus a no-contest to Hiroku Yamanaka in Strikeforce which was originally a 16 second TKO victory for Cyborg. However the win was overturned due to the aforementioned steroid usage.
Cris then calls out Rousey’s lack of technique when it comes to her implementing her Brazilian jiu jitsu in the octagon. Even though 8 of Rousey’s 10 victories have come by arm-bar submissions.
“And the way that she is on the ground, it’s absolute horrendous. And her distance is absolute horrendous,” Cris said. “The only thing that she has is pace and power, and I have pace, precision and power.”
Cyborg brings up a valid point towards the end of her comment in the fact that she enjoys power. Cris has 10 of her 12 victories by TKO and is considered to be one of, if not the most powerful and physically imposing women to ever compete in MMA.
Cris switches gears and speaks on how liberal Rousey is with her words and how she seldom backs up what comes out of her mouth.
“As always, (Rousey) is trying to pick her next opponent. She is running away from me and asking to fight Bethe (Correia),” she said. “If she was so sure about everything she says, she would have already accepted to fight me like she accepted to fight Gina Carano at any weight, fight Cain Velasquez, (Floyd) Mayweather. Grow up, Ronda.”
Cyborg’s last win came against Marloes Coenan in the main event of Invicta FC 6 by way of TKO in the 3rd round and she’s expected to make her bantamweight debut for the promotion some time before the year’s end. Rousey has defended her UFC strap 5 times and her last performance was her quickest to date when she knocked out Alexis Davis in 16 seconds at UFC 175 in July.
Time will tell if these outspoken female juggernauts will ever get to settle their score in the confines of a cage.
