The California State Athletic Commission has officially overturned Jon Jones’ UFC 214 victory against Daniel Cormier to a no contest.

The news comes one day after it was revealed that Jones’ “B” sample came back positive for the steroid Turinabol. Multiple outlets have confirmed the CSAC ruling following an initial report from MMAFighting.com’s Marc Raimondi.

The UFC has not issued a public statement regarding the status of the light heavyweight title. Cormier entered the bout as the defending champion.

Jones defeated Cormier via technical knockout 3:01 into the third round of their headlining bout at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif., on July 29. However, the Jackson-Wink MMA product tested positive for Turinabol in a urine test administered on July 28 after weigh-ins. Even after two positive samples, Jones is still entitled to a complete adjudication process from USADA, and the UFC could wait to strip the belt until that ruling is made.

Jones could be facing a four-year suspension as a second-time offender. Prior to UFC 200, he tested positive for two estrogen blockers and was pulled from a scheduled rematch with Cormier three days before the event. He completed his one-year suspension for that infraction earlier this summer.

Highly passionate MMA Journalist, and I've followed the sport ever since my favorite fighter, Vitor Belfort won the heavyweight tournament at UFC 12. After that I've tried to go to every local MMA event around the Gulf Coast and surrounding areas and decided to make it a point to have a career in some aspect in the fighting sport other than fighting in general (didn't want to ruin my face). I'm currently enrolled at Southeastern Louisiana University working towards a degree in Communication. I cover MMA, Boxing and Football for The Daily Star newspaper in my hometown of Hammond, Louisiana, in addition to working as a promotional writer for a local Boxing promotion known as BoxnCar and I cover boxing for 8countnews.com however SciFighting.com is my home. My main goal is to bring more publicity to MMA in my area and to the sport as a whole as all of us involved with the sport are merely scratching the surface and laying the foundation of what mixed martial arts competition will be further down the road.
