Gall Believes Northcutt is Afraid of “Loser Shaves Head” Stipulation

Mixed martial arts borrows from pro wrestling in countless ways, subtle and otherwise. MMA doesn’t borrow a lot of gimmick matches, although you could say it is all an “I Quit” No Holds Barred match in a steel cage with taped fists. MMA doesn’t have Retirement matches, Loser Leaves Town matches, or Bra and Panties matches. However, UFC welterweight Mickey Gall appeared recently on Ariel Helwani’s The MMA Hour and discussed his call for a Luchas de Apuestas match vs. Sage Northcutt with the bet being hair.

“I just thought it would be fun to do,” said Gall, as transcribed by Shaun Al-Shatti for MMA Fighting. “He’s got the spiky hair and I offered to do the hair bet, loser shaves it. People seemed to latch onto the hair thing, but I don’t know, man. He hasn’t said anything. I’m down. It’s hair, it grows back, and I’m confident I’m not going to be the one shaving it. I think he’s a little worried. I think that shows a little lack of confidence, afraid to lose those locks.

“I’ll probably bring it up out there in Sacramento when I see him. That was the only bet. People seemed to like it, so I’m down to follow through. And I think he should too. Make it fun.”

“Sometimes I feel like he acts like what he thinks a person is supposed to act like. Like, it’s just over the top, where I feel uncomfortable conversing with him. But I have no hate for the guy. He seems like a nice kid. He’s a young kid. I’m sure he’ll grow into his own and get a genuine personality eventually. But yeah, he just seems a little corny.”

Sage Northcutt’s father infamously pulled him from the famed TriStar gym last year. In contrast, Gall has been training at TriStar and will have Zahabi in his corner.

“I talked to Firas out in Cleveland [at UFC 203], and I really respect Firas and guys like Rory, Georges St-Pierre,” said Gall. “I study those guys. That’s three great martial artists right there. I think Firas is one of the greatest minds in MMA, and I just wanted to learn. I wanted to learn from him. I also know Firas has a black belt in karate, so he knows karate, and he also knows Sage. Like, Sage trained up there. So it seemed like a useful place to get some work in, and it was. I had a great time up there.”

Northcutt took a long, strange trip to the UFC on FOX co-main event, from calling out CM Punk with Dana White cageside at a regional show, to his big show jitters test vs. Mike Jackson, to crushing the debut of CM Punk.

“The first two guys, they were not UFC caliber guys,” sadi Gall. “But Sage is. He’s good. He has some weapons. But I’m going to beat his ass.”

Highly passionate MMA Journalist, and I've followed the sport ever since my favorite fighter, Vitor Belfort won the heavyweight tournament at UFC 12. After that I've tried to go to every local MMA event around the Gulf Coast and surrounding areas and decided to make it a point to have a career in some aspect in the fighting sport other than fighting in general (didn't want to ruin my face). I'm currently enrolled at Southeastern Louisiana University working towards a degree in Communication. I cover MMA, Boxing and Football for The Daily Star newspaper in my hometown of Hammond, Louisiana, in addition to working as a promotional writer for a local Boxing promotion known as BoxnCar and I cover boxing for 8countnews.com however SciFighting.com is my home. My main goal is to bring more publicity to MMA in my area and to the sport as a whole as all of us involved with the sport are merely scratching the surface and laying the foundation of what mixed martial arts competition will be further down the road.
