Nick Diaz is off of his suspension for NOT testing positive for metabolites from the demon weed marijuana. UFC president Dana White says he is looking for a fight.
Diaz reportedly is interested in a rematch with Georges St-Pierre, but GSP and UFC are not seeing eye to eye at the moment, so that’s out. #5 ranked middleweight Gegard Mousasi has a plan.
‘The Dreamcatcher’ is ranked #5 at middleweight, and everyone above him is spoken for, so the callout makes good sense. #2 Chris Weidman fights #4 Yoel Romero at UFC 205 on November 12, 2016, at Madison Square Garden in New York City, New York. #3 Souza Jacare fights #1 Luke Rockhold at UFC Fight Night 101 on Nov. 26, 2016, in Melbourne, Australia. And the champ Michael Bisping is celebrating his win over Dan Henderson at UFC 204.
“Nick Diaz, that’s a good fight for me,” said Mousasi to FloCombat. “Nick Diaz, I think people would love that fight. I can ask for all the fights that I want to fight, but whether they give it to me is a different thing.
“Like even Vitor Belfort, I asked for that fight for a long time, you know? It wasn’t because I asked for the fight [that I got it], it was because Vitor asked for me. He asked the UFC he wants to fight me so they gave him the fight.”
Mousasi beat Belfort via second-round TKO at UFC 204.
In a testament to his excellence, Diaz remains wildly popular despite not winning a fight since beating BJ Penn in a fight of the night five years. Diaz lost a unanimous decision to Carlos Condit for the interim welterweight championship early in 2012. The next year he lost a unanimous decision to Georges St-Pierre for the welterweight championship. In 2014, nothing. Then in 2015 he lost a wild fight via unanimous decision to Anderson Silva, that was later turned to an NC when Silva failed a test for PEDs.
But Diaz remains a huge draw.
