During a recent interview, former UFC heavyweight champion Junior Dos Santos said he is the one to defeat current heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic.
JDS won the title back in 2011, knocking out Cain Velasquez in 64 seconds at the first UFC on FOX. He defended it successfully vs. Frank Mir, and then lost a brutal grinding rematch vs. Velasquez.
Next Dos Santos knocked out Mark Hunt with a spinning hook kick. Then in his second fight in 2013, he lost a trilogy fight with Cain.
In 2014 he came back to beat Miocic in an incredible five-round fight. The win-loss alternation continued as Dos Santos then lost to Alistair Overeem in 2015, and bounced back in April of this year with a decision over Ben Rothwell.
Dos Santos has suffered a series of injuries, most recently to his shoulder, which has taken him out for the past three months. The Brazilian hopes to fight in late November of early December. And above all, he wants a rematch with Miocic, and to beat him again.
JDS is currently the #4 contender:
Champion : Stipe Miocic
1 Fabricio Werdum
2 Cain Velasquez
3 Alistair Overeem
4 Junior Dos Santos
“I want to fight all of them if I need to, but what I really want is that belt,” said Dos Santos. “Of course, everybody is here for that belt. But I really believe I can be the champion again.”
“I know people like to see those guys who talk a lot, who promote the fight. But we don’t need that kind of energy, and I’m glad Stipe Miocic is the champion right now.
“And he will be, until I get there.”
