WWE Smackdown Live Results: Did Ziggler Lose His #1 Contendership?

Backstage with Randy Orton, Shane McMahon and Daniel Bryan. Shane has lots of security on the look-out for Lesnar. Miz and Maryse show up. Bryan make an I.C. Title Match for SummerSlam. Dean Ambrose also has a quick word with Shane and Bryan.

In the arena now, the WWE World Heavyweight Champion Dean Ambrose has made his way to the ring. Ambrose is talking about his match with Dolph Ziggler atSummerSlam. Ambrose calls Ziggler out and Ziggler’s music hits. Ziggler is on his way to the ring. Ambrose is acting more like the heel and Ziggler seems to be more of a babyface in this in-ring segment. Ambrose keeps putting Ziggler down. Very passionate promo here by Ziggler. Ziggler is all fired up and Ambrose is playing the heel.

Bray Wyatt shows up out of nowhere and hits Sister Abigail on Dolph Ziggler! Bray says that Dolph Ziggler doesn’t deserve to be the Number One Contender. Bray Wyatt challenges Dolph Ziggler for his Number One Contender spot for SummerSlam.

Up next, a Triple Threat Match to determine the Number One Contender for the Intercontinental Championship. Apollo Crews vs. Kalisto vs. “The Lone Wolf” Baron Corbin.

Backstage, Dolph Ziggler tells Shane McMahon and Daniel Bryan that he wants to accept Bray Wyatt’s challenge. The match is now official.

The Triple Threat Match starts now. Kalisto comes out first. Out next is Baron Corbin. And here comes Apollo Crews. Kalisto and Crews team up momentarily to knock Corbin out of the ring. The action spills out onto the floor and all three are outside the ring as we take a commercial break. Fast-paced action between all three. Big moves and lots of 2-counts. Apollo Crews rolls up Kalisto and wins the Triple Threat Match. Apollo Crews is the new Number One Contender for The Miz’s Intercontinental Championship at SummerSlam. After the match, Miz hits Skull-Crushing Finale on Crews but then Corbin sneaks up on Miz, turns him around, hits End of Days on The Miz. Baron Corbin stands tall above everybody.

When we return from the commercial break, “The Irish Lass-Kicker” Becky Lynch will take on Eva Marie.

Eva is favoring her leg before the match even starts, seemingly from when she jumped down from the ropes during her entrance. She’s being looked at by the doctor… The referee just called off the match! It looked like this was a work and wasn’t a legitimate injury. Eva seemed to be smiling. This was most likely a work for Eva to get heel heat.

Up next, former NXT Tag Team Champions Jason Jordan and Chad Gable: American Alpha will debut on SmackDown Live.

It’s American Alpha vs. The Vaudevillains. Chad Gable and Simon Gotch now. Gable uses his amateur wrestling skills but Gotch grabs a Wristlock. Gable gains control once again. Jordan comes in now. Gotch tags Aiden English. Gable takes out the Villains with a Double Clothesline off the ropes. The Villains are double-teaming Gable now. Jason Jordan makes the hot tag. Jordan is cleaning house now. American Alpha hits their Double Back Suplex and Gable gets the pinfall victory on Aiden English.

Up next, A.J. Styles has a message for John Cena when we return from the commercial break.

As soon as Styles starts his in-ring promo, Cena’s music hits and here comes the 15-time WWE World Champion. Styles says he does not want John Cena in WWE anymore… Styles says, “Nashville, Tennessee is the weakest of minds. Trust me, I know.” Cena and Styles have started the “Let’s Go Cena! Cena Sucks!” chants. Styles asks Cena why he’s still in WWE. Cena gives a passionate speech about how much he loves WWE and the WWE Universe. A.J. Styles challenges John Cena to a match atSummerSlam. Cena accepts the challenge.

Breezango is in the ring now. It’s Fandango with Tyler Breeze in his corner taking on WWE’s Apex Predator, “The Viper” Randy Orton! Fandango gets the early advantage but Orton quickly shuts him down. Orton takes control. Dropkick by Fandango. Fandango mounts Orton and delivers some punches, then locks in a Rear Chinlock. Orton gets out of it and is now delivering Clotheslines and a Powerslam. Now he has Fandango in the ropes for the DDT. Orton is calling for the RKO… Brock Lesnar is in the audience! RKO on Fandango but Lesnar enters the ring and F-5’s Randy Orton! Brock Lesnar has just F-5’d Randy Orton! SmackDown officials escort Lesnar to the back as we go to commercial break.

Backstage, Heath Slater appears in Daniel Bryan’s office. Bryan makes a match for next week. If Slater wins, he gets a contract. Slater gets cut in half with a GORE! His opponent next week will be “The Gore Machine” Rhyno!

Another promo for the main event. Dolph Ziggler vs. Bray Wyatt. The winner is the Number One Contender to Dean Ambrose’s WWE World Heavyweight Championship.

Carmella has arrived. She gets jumped from behind by Natalya Neidhart. Natalya puts Carmella in the Sharpshooter outside the ring.

Backstage again now, Shane and Bryan are trying to convince Dolph Ziggler once again not to put his Number One Contendership on the line. Dolph replies with, “screw you.”

Bray Wyatt is making his entrance to the ring. Now it is indeed time for the main event. Bray Wyatt vs. Dolph Ziggler. Here comes Dolph Ziggler. Dropkick and a Fameasser from Ziggler on Bray in the opening moments of the match. Bray turns things around with a Clothesline. Ziggler tried to roll Bray up but Bray kicked out immediately. Bray started clutching at his lower leg, perhaps his ankle. We go to a commercial break.

Bray Wyatt Superplexes Dolph and goes for the cover. DZ kicks out. Bray has him in a Chinlock now. Ziggler is on fire now. Bray kicks out at 2. Bray with a Suplex and a Senton Splash. Dolph kicks out. Bray Wyatt untied the turnbuckle pad but Ziggler hit a Zig Zag! Wyatt kicks out at 2 though. Ziggler exposes the turnbuckle… Huge Uranage by Bray but DZ kicks out again. Wyatt is just beating on Ziggler now. Ziggler throws Bray face-first into the exposed turnbuckle, stunning Bray. Ziggler hits a Superkick for the 3-count! Dolph Ziggler defeats Bray Wyatt to remain the Number One Contender to Dean Ambrose’s WWE World Heavyweight Championship.

After the match, Erick Rowan starts attacking Ziggler. Dean Ambrose makes the save but they overpower him. Bray hits Sister Abigail on Ziggler. The show goes off the air with Bray Wyatt and Erick Rowan standing over Dean Ambrose and Dolph Ziggler.
