Demond Brock First Title Defense to be Friday Night at The D

Kenner, Louisiana native Demond “Body Shot” Brock (11-3-1) will feel the lime under the neon lights of Las Vegas for the first time in his career this Friday night. Brock will be defending his WBC US Lightweight Title for the very first time in Downtown Las Vegas at The D Events Center as part of “Knockout Nights at The D.”

Brock defeated Oscar Valenzuela late last year and relished that victory but has been training hard and is ready to make his first defense.

“For one, I would like to thank God for giving me this opportunity to be here, without him none of this would be possible. It was a great feeling winning my title…and it’s even  better feeling defending it in the great fight city of Las Vegas! I’ve had a great training camp! We pushed really hard and I’m in the best shape of my life!”

However Brock will definitely need to be in the best shape of his life as he engages in a grudge match of sorts against Vegas native Jesus “Chuy” Gutierrez (16-0-1). Although like many successful boxers, no hard feelings are involved for Demond, just business, for Brock feels the best is yet to come.

“Chuy is just another fighter, nothing special… typical Mexican styled fighter.. For me, it’s business as usual. A win over Chuy wouldn’t be the biggest win of my career, my biggest win hasn’t even happen yet. But expect bigger things very soon.”

Demond didn’t pick the round or the minute, but he did pick the winner and he wanted to give a shout out to his sponsors and promoter.

“I can’t make any predictions as to if it’s going to be a short night or a long night. But ultimately I know I will retain my title and I will without a shadow of a doubt be victorious!”

“Thanks to my promoter Roy Jones Jr Promotions, special thanks to Battle Tested (My Sponsor) thanks for my custom fight uniform. Also to Prestigious Custom Watches and Thank You to the FANS!!! See you at KNOCKOUT NIGHT AT THE D!!!”

Highly passionate MMA Journalist, and I've followed the sport ever since my favorite fighter, Vitor Belfort won the heavyweight tournament at UFC 12. After that I've tried to go to every local MMA event around the Gulf Coast and surrounding areas and decided to make it a point to have a career in some aspect in the fighting sport other than fighting in general (didn't want to ruin my face). I'm currently enrolled at Southeastern Louisiana University working towards a degree in Communication. I cover MMA, Boxing and Football for The Daily Star newspaper in my hometown of Hammond, Louisiana, in addition to working as a promotional writer for a local Boxing promotion known as BoxnCar and I cover boxing for 8countnews.com however SciFighting.com is my home. My main goal is to bring more publicity to MMA in my area and to the sport as a whole as all of us involved with the sport are merely scratching the surface and laying the foundation of what mixed martial arts competition will be further down the road.
