Yesterday news broke that former UFC champion Jon Jones was pulled over and issued five traffic citations including drag racing. Today it was revealed that the citations were enough for a judge to issue a warrant for his arrest and Jones turned himself into Albuquerque police today:

Jon Jones was booked in New Mexico for violating his probation moments ago — and posed for a brand new mug shot after turning himself in … TMZ Sportshas learned.

We’re told a judge had issued a warrant for the UFC star’s arrest for violating the terms of his probation after he was cited for drag racing in Albuquerque last week.

Jones was sentenced to probation last year after being convicted in a hit and run case in which the UFC star crashed into a pregnant woman’s car and then ran from the scene on foot.

Following news earlier today that former champion Jon Jones had been arrested for a probation violation, his management team released the following statement to MMAFighting.com:

“Jon and his team are taking this very seriously, and we will let the legal process play out.

“We are confident he will be released once he has an opportunity to explain to the judge the facts in this case.”

The UFC also released a statement regarding the incident:

“UFC is aware that Jon Jones turned himself into the Albuquerque Police Department this morning for a potential probation violation stemming from a traffic stop last week.

“UFC has been in touch with Jones’ legal team and will have no further comment until the organization has had appropriate time to gather necessary information.

Highly passionate MMA Journalist, and I've followed the sport ever since my favorite fighter, Vitor Belfort won the heavyweight tournament at UFC 12. After that I've tried to go to every local MMA event around the Gulf Coast and surrounding areas and decided to make it a point to have a career in some aspect in the fighting sport other than fighting in general (didn't want to ruin my face). I'm currently enrolled at Southeastern Louisiana University working towards a degree in Communication. I cover MMA, Boxing and Football for The Daily Star newspaper in my hometown of Hammond, Louisiana, in addition to working as a promotional writer for a local Boxing promotion known as BoxnCar and I cover boxing for 8countnews.com however SciFighting.com is my home. My main goal is to bring more publicity to MMA in my area and to the sport as a whole as all of us involved with the sport are merely scratching the surface and laying the foundation of what mixed martial arts competition will be further down the road.
