As many remember, The Shield reunited for a moment at the recent Payback pay-per-view during the Fatal 4-Way Match involving Dean Ambrose, Seth Rollins, Roman Reigns and Randy Orton for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. They teamed up to give Orton their trademark Triple Powerbomb through the commentators’ table. Seth Rollins would go on to win the contest and retain his belt.
Now it’s being reported by Dave Meltzer and The Wrestling Observer Newsletter that WWE officials have indeed been talking about reuniting The Shield at some point, possibly at the SummerSlam PPV event. Meltzer noted that he expects the former Shield members to be working as babyfaces atSummerSlam.
The last NXT event, The Beast in the East did extremely well and the next may do even better.
PWInsider.com is reporting that WWE officials are said to be very impressed with ticket sales for the upcoming NXT Takeover: Brooklyn event, which will take place the night before SummerSlam. There is even talk that the event itself may soon be completely sold out in advance.
In addition, the company is also considering taping a future episode of the normal NXT program for the WWE Network at the Barclays Center in addition to airing the live two-hour Takeover event.
So the Shield may reform, but it looks like the Wyatt’s already have and Sting may begin a feud with them.
As reported, Luke Harper returned to interfere in the Bray Wyatt vs Roman Reigns match at Battleground giving Wyatt the victory and reuniting with his former mentor.
We also noted that Dave Metlzer of The Wrestling Observer said “That’s where Sting fits in too.”
Further details have emerged today, suggesting Sting will team with Reigns to take on Wyatt and Harper at SummerSlam in a few weeks. Consideration had been given to a six-man match as the original plan was Sting, Reigns and Dean Ambrose vs. Wyatt, Harper and Erick Rowan but Rowan is out of action with an injury.
Meltzer said on the Wrestling Observer Radio that we may see a new Wyatt Family member introduced because Rowan is out. The thinking behind this match is that having Reigns team with Sting will protect Reigns from being booed by the New York City crowd.
