Titan FC’s Bucia Says “I’ll Treat Pele Like He’s Young”

Tomorrow night live on UFC Fight Pass, Titan FC 34 will bring mixed martial arts fans 4, that’s right, 4 championship contests. Fighters on the Titan card will look to take their next step on the road to the UFC. One such man is former Strikeforce veteran, Zak Bucia (14-6).

However Zak has a unique opportunity awaiting him on Saturday night. As he will lock horns with an unbridled legend in the MMA community in Brazillian badass, Jose “Pele” Landi-Jons (33-14). Zak realizes the major upside that can follow if he is to come away victorious Saturday night. Even though Pele is ageing, Bucia will treat him like a spring chicken.

“This fight was put together a little last minute, but I’m ready to go. It’s really awesome to fight Pele, like I said this came out of nowhere. I did have to go back and look up all the things that he succeeded at doing for the sport back in his day. I don’t really know if he’s looking to make another run, but I will use this win to propel my own run. He’s been in battles and wars at 41, but I’m going to think he’s going to be 100%, and treat him like a young Pele. I’ll deal with him accordingly like that.”

Young Pele took on the likes of former UFC Champions, Chuck Liddell, Matt Hughes, Pat Miletech and Dave Menna however now Jose has only fought once a year since 2007, and his strength in competition is dwindling. His last opponent had an unheralded record of 0 wins and 3 defeats, These facts are known to Zak but he still realizes the magnitude of this pivotal contest.

“He’s (Pele) been a little inactive, even his last few fights, I mean yea, he won but he was facing guys with losing records. I’ve really been looking at his older stuff to gauge how he moves. Even still, this is still the biggest fight of my career and it couldn’t have come at a better time. I’m peaking a lot everywhere so honestly the timing could not be better.”

Zak is anticipating a classic version of Pele and has trained accordingly. Even though Jose is a considerable threat in any area, Bucia will still maintain his focus on a finish.

“Jose is one of those guys that’s dangerous everywhere, he’s a black belt with BJJ and has great striking but I’m still going to stay in his face. Just like I do with everyone and I will constantly look to finish. I mean I’ll always look to finish. I’ve been all over fighting and it’s been a long road in my fighting career, so with the exposure I’m going to get on UFC Fight Pass, I’d like to finish. Man, I’m a grinder and I hate decisions, I want to stay in somebody’s face. If anything goes wrong then at least it won’t be a boring fight. I refuse to float around and wait on the judges.”

Highly passionate MMA Journalist, and I've followed the sport ever since my favorite fighter, Vitor Belfort won the heavyweight tournament at UFC 12. After that I've tried to go to every local MMA event around the Gulf Coast and surrounding areas and decided to make it a point to have a career in some aspect in the fighting sport other than fighting in general (didn't want to ruin my face). I'm currently enrolled at Southeastern Louisiana University working towards a degree in Communication. I cover MMA, Boxing and Football for The Daily Star newspaper in my hometown of Hammond, Louisiana, in addition to working as a promotional writer for a local Boxing promotion known as BoxnCar and I cover boxing for 8countnews.com however SciFighting.com is my home. My main goal is to bring more publicity to MMA in my area and to the sport as a whole as all of us involved with the sport are merely scratching the surface and laying the foundation of what mixed martial arts competition will be further down the road.
