WWE King of the Ring Returns, Competitors Announced

(WWE Icon Sheamus)

The WWE will bring back one of their most dominant pay-per-views except it won’t be a pay-per-view at all. Tonight on Monday Night Raw the second coming of King of the Ring will be showcased. Or at least the opening round will be.

The prize for the winner has yet to be named but the competitors have been announced for the event that will take place tonight on USA network and then tomorrow night on the WWE Network.

Dolph Ziggler will compete after the win he picked up last night at the Extreme Rules pay-per-view. Ziggy defeated Sheamus in a “Kiss me arse” match. However the celtic warrior got the last laugh as he forced Dolph’s face on the side cheek of his posterior. Dolph will face Bad New Barrett in the opening round.

Barrett also competed in an impromptu match last night against Neville last night. A match in which he lost. Both Sheamus and Neville will also be in the tournament. Neville will take on Luke Harper in the first round and Sheamus will face the likes of Dean Ambrose.

Harper will look to rebound from last night’s loss to Dean Ambrose. After picking up his first pay-per-view win in a long time, Ambrose will look to further his winning streak against the red mohawk clad Sheamus.

Then the last pair squaring off against each other were absent from last night’s pay-per-view offering. Stardust will dance with R-Truth. Stardust had a strong match against John Cena for Cena’s WWE United States title. Even though he lost that bout, odds are more likely than not that he will coast past R-Truth as it seems like he’s more canon fodder than anything to basically everybody on the roster.

Interesting facts and predictions:

Sheamus going against Dean Ambrose in the opening round will be a key match. Dean seems to be getting a slight push after his victory over Luke Harper and with a lackluster loss suffered by Sheamus last night, this match will be who the WWE feels they can push in possibly a U.S. Title scenario.

Or since Daniel Bryan wasn’t medically cleared for last night’s event will he be stripped of the WWE Intercontinental Title and this tournament will provide the next title holder? Dean Ambrose, Neville and R-Truth are the only ones to never hold that title. Sheamus is the only participant that has won this tournament before in 2010.

Highly passionate MMA Journalist, and I've followed the sport ever since my favorite fighter, Vitor Belfort won the heavyweight tournament at UFC 12. After that I've tried to go to every local MMA event around the Gulf Coast and surrounding areas and decided to make it a point to have a career in some aspect in the fighting sport other than fighting in general (didn't want to ruin my face). I'm currently enrolled at Southeastern Louisiana University working towards a degree in Communication. I cover MMA, Boxing and Football for The Daily Star newspaper in my hometown of Hammond, Louisiana, in addition to working as a promotional writer for a local Boxing promotion known as BoxnCar and I cover boxing for 8countnews.com however SciFighting.com is my home. My main goal is to bring more publicity to MMA in my area and to the sport as a whole as all of us involved with the sport are merely scratching the surface and laying the foundation of what mixed martial arts competition will be further down the road.
