UFC on Fox 15’s co-main event contest was supposed to have the #2 ranked UFC Middleweight contender Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza (21-3) against #6 ranked Yoel Romero (10-1). But due to a ligament tear to the knee of Romero, he is being replaced by Chris Camozzi (21-9). The news shocked most of the fight world but not Jacare’s manager Gilberto Faria. Then he had news that shocked #9 ranked Middleweight Michael Bisping (25-7).

Here’s what Faria told Combate:

“I think Chris Camozzi showed he is a warrior to take on Jacare like that. I’m actually surprised with his attitude, because he’s getting in trouble. I asked for Michael Bisping, because he’s fighting on the same week as Jacare, but Bisping doesn’t want any of it. He is always talking about how he wants to get to the top and fight for the belt, but when the opportunity presented itself, he didn’t want to fight. If he beats Jacare, he fights for the belt next, but he didn’t want to take the risk, he prefers to fight C.B. Dollaway.”

Bisping wasn’t too pleased with the comments and retorted with his side of the story:

“Mma Mania you are full of s—, and JacareMMA so is your manager,” tweeted Bisping. “Complete lies! I was never offered the fight.”

Faria continued to tell Combate about the pairing of Camozzi and Jacare.

“Jacare hasn’t fought in six months. If we don’t take a fight now, he’ll wait for five more months. Can you imagine going 11 months without fighting and then getting a top level opponent? Right now, we must fight not to lose momentum because Jacare is ready. He needs to put a beating on someone, take out the anger and put some money in the bank. He needs to get that out of his system, then rest and go back to training. Then, the next guy will be the champion and we will be ready for him”.

The commotion of the Mixed Martial Arts world is the fact that this contest is a rematch. A rematch that wouldn’t have happened under any other circumstances.

Their first contest was the co-main event of UFC on FX 8. The bout at 3:37 ended in the opening stanza with Jacare winning via arm triangle choke.

This will be Camozzi’s return to the UFC after going 2-0 in regional promotions.

Highly passionate MMA Journalist, and I've followed the sport ever since my favorite fighter, Vitor Belfort won the heavyweight tournament at UFC 12. After that I've tried to go to every local MMA event around the Gulf Coast and surrounding areas and decided to make it a point to have a career in some aspect in the fighting sport other than fighting in general (didn't want to ruin my face). I'm currently enrolled at Southeastern Louisiana University working towards a degree in Communication. I cover MMA, Boxing and Football for The Daily Star newspaper in my hometown of Hammond, Louisiana, in addition to working as a promotional writer for a local Boxing promotion known as BoxnCar and I cover boxing for 8countnews.com however SciFighting.com is my home. My main goal is to bring more publicity to MMA in my area and to the sport as a whole as all of us involved with the sport are merely scratching the surface and laying the foundation of what mixed martial arts competition will be further down the road.
