Adriano Moraes (13-1) put his One Championship flyweight title on the line against Asuka Mikami (11-3-1) in One 25’s main event. We review the results and quotes of main event fighters in last night’s championship fight.
The opening round of the main event was dominated by Moraes as he scored with a head kick, two takedowns and was able to sure his opponent’s back twice. Shibuya’s defense was passed to that point but he was able to escape trouble. The second round was closer to even as Moraes continued to score with takedowns, but Shibuya was able to start landing shots in the pocket.
Moraes was the dominant fighter throughout the 5-round battle, able to take Shibuya’s back multiple times with takedowns and good ground work. Shibuya was able to defend on the ground and deny the rear-naked choke to stay out of trouble. Even though there was no clear finish, Moraes was the clear decision winner in his first title defense.
“Shibuya is a very tough guy,” Moraes said. “I studied him very much,”
“Yeah, I tried finishing this match every time. Shibuya is tough guy. Very strong,” Moraes said. “This belt is mine. I want to stay here a long, long time.”
“Moraes is the strongest flyweight champion in the world and I’m the only one who has fought with him for five rounds,” Shibuya said after the bout. “I’m disappointed.”
Shibuya divulged his future fighting plans, “I want to fight for a world championship. I will go anywhere, anytime. I will show you my fight.”
