Sergey Kovalev and Jean Pascal Involved in Staredown Fracas

Sergey “The Krusher” Kovalev pushed his challenger Jean Pascal ahead of their world title clash in Montreal. Pascal took off his opponent’s cap as they posed for pictures, prompting an angry response from Kovalev in their final press conference.

Sergey Kovalev (27-0-1) (left) is undefeated as the reigning WBO, IBF and WBA (super) light heavyweight champion. Sergey Kovalev has 23 KO’s in 26 career victories, boxing with ridiculous punching power. Kovalev is coming off of his most challenging opponent yet against veteran Bernard Hopkins. Kovalev ended up dominating Hopkins, winning all 12 rounds on the judges’ scorecards 120-107, 120-107, and 120-106.

Jean Pascal (29-2-1) fought 2 hard battled with Bernard Hopkins back to back resulting in a split draw and a unanimous decision loss of his WBC, Lineal and The Ring light heavyweight titles. After his loss to Hopkins, Pascal came back to defeat Alex Kuziemski, George Blades and Lucian Bute heading into Saturday Night.

On not fighting in front of his home crowd in Russia, Kovalev stated:

“This is a huge arena for me. This is something new for me. I love experiencing something new in my career. I love travelling the world to fight. If my job lets me travel and get victory, then it is good for me. It makes me happy. It is big motivation for me because a lot of people will be watching this fight. I am now responsible for three titles and it pushes me to work harder. I would like to fight in Russia but I don’t know when the opportunity will happen.”

Jean Pascal stated,
“In hockey, Russian players do well during the regular season and then not do well in the play-offs. So I think that, like those hockey players, Kovalev will not be able to perform the same on Saturday night against me as he has in the past against other fighters. Nobody should take me lightly.”

“I will give 110% on Saturday night but I cannot predict the future. This is like game seven of the Stanley Cup Finals and I am prepared to do whatever it takes to win. I’ve got balls and big ones and you will see them on Saturday night.”

Sergey Kovalev faces off with Jean Pascal at 9:45 PM ET/PT on Saturday, March 14th.
