“We’re really looking forward to bringing another exciting world championship fight to a great sell-out crowd at Pechanga Resort & Casino this May,” said Bellator President Scott Coker.  “Our middleweight champion Brandon Halsey has been extremely impressive through his first 8 fights, and I’m looking forward to watching him defend his belt for the first time against Kendall Grove.”

Brandon Halsey is a former division 1 wrestler at Cal-State Bakersfield, and his mat experience shows in his fighting style. His professional record is perfect at 8-0 with 6 victories coming under the Bellator Banner. Halsey took the middleweight title against Alexander Shlemenko in dominating fashion, defeating the long-time Middleweight champion in 35 seconds with a rear-naked choke submission. His wrestling and ground control are his strongest qualities as a fighter and will be a force to be reckoned with in the main event.

Hawaiian born Kendall Grove (24-14-1) is a Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt and former winner of The Ultimate Fighter. With a rear-naked choke submission victory over Christian M’Pumbu at Bellator 127, Grove earned the title shot against Halsey. Grove’s jiu-jitsu expertise will be an equalizing factor to Halsey’s wrestling prowess as 10 of his 21 career victories have come by submission. The ground game dynamic of this fight will be the most interesting component as Grove fights to hand Halsey the first loss of his professional career.

See Brandon Halsey defend his middleweight title for the first time on May 15th against Kendall Grove on Spike at 9/8C.
