Matt “The Hammer” Hamill is returning to the cage after a short-lived second retirement.

The UFC veteran who called it quits for a second time following a unanimous decision loss to Thiago Silva in 2013 will face former M-1 Global Light-Heavyweight Champion Vinny Mahalhaes in the headlining bout of World Series of Fighting 20 on April 10. The promotion announced the news during the preliminary card broadcast of World Series of Fighting 18.

Hamill has had a rough go of it in his career as of late. The former Ultimate Fighter competitor is just 1-3 since 2011 with his only win coming against the unheralded Roger Hollet. Hamill’s three losses during that span came against the aforementioned Silva, Alexander Gustafsson, and Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson.

Magalhaes will be a very tough test for Hamill’s first bout back from retirement. The Ultimate Fighter Season Eight finalist is 2-0 since his UFC release with back-to-back submissions over Jorge Gonzales and UFC veteran Jason Brillz. The win over Brillz netted Magalhaes the Titan FC Light-Heavyweight title.

The co-main event at World Series of Fighting 20 will be an entertaining lightweight scrap between Melvin Guillard and Ozzy Dugulubgov. Guillard last competed at World Series of Fighting 15 where he lost a three round decision to current WSOF Lightweight Champion Justin Gaethje. Guillard is just 3-6 with one no contest since October 2011.

Dugulubgov will be looking to pick up the biggest win of his career against Guillard. The 6-2 fighter has a notable win over current UFC fighter Chris Wade and most recently knocked out former Ultimate Fighter competitor Keon Caldwell at World Series of Fighting 13.

No other bouts have been announced for the card.

World Series of Fighting 20: Hamill vs. Magalhaes takes place April 10 from the Foxwoods Resort and Casino in Ledyard, Connecticut. The card will likely be broadcast on NBCSports Network.

Daniel Reveles
Born and raised in Santa Barbara, California, Daniel Reveles' interest in Mixed Martial Arts began at the age of fourteen while attending a Fantasy Football draft at a Friend's house. That day Daniel's buddies ordered UFC 88 on Pay-Per-View featuring lauded striker and hometown hero Chuck “The Iceman” Liddell squaring off with Division One Wrestler “Suga” Rashad Evans. After seeing “the wrestler” Rashad Evans put the Ice Man out cold with an overhand right, Daniel became instantly hooked by the unpredictability of the sport. Since that moment Daniel has become well versed in Mixed Martial Arts History and has yet to miss an event. Daniel is currently studying at the University of California Santa Barbara to receive his Bachelor's Degree in Communications with hopes of becoming the next big media mogul. When he is not watching MMA or studying you can find Daniel hanging out with his family and friends or taking in a game at the lovely Dodger Stadium.
