The Rock is rumored to appear at tonight’s WWE Royal Rumble.
He posted a photo of himself on Instagram in Philadelphia saying he’s in Philadelphia, the site of the Royal Rumble, in a not-so-subtle hint that business is about to pick up for the WWE.
How might the WWE use the Rock? Could he win the Royal Rumble and go on to challenge Brock Lesnar for the WWE title? We know we will not see Cena vs. Rock III. We are not going to see Rollins vs. The Rock. Rock’s only going to return to wrestle one man Lesnar.
But will the title be on the line? Is it possible that The Rock will cause Lesnar to lose his championship tonight, then enter the Royal Rumble, where Lesnar will come out and cause The Rock to get eliminated?
The Rock is a game-changer. The third-generation wrestler moved from the WWE to a big career in Hollywood, but his heart remains in wrestling. The Rock has an open-door to return to the WWE at any time. Even though he comes in and takes someone’s high-profile spot at WrestleMania, WWE officials believe he brings so much attention and money that allowing the Rock to appear on his own terms financially benefits the company.
The rumor is that Lesnar may return to MMA in April, so it’s likely that he will drop the title tonight or at WrestleMania.
In addition to The Rock’s possible appearance, questions swarm over who will win the Royal Rumble? Will Romain Reigns win and challenge for the title? Reigns was the early favorite, but his star power has not risen as fast as the WWE would like to put him in the top spot.
Can Bryan win the gold? He is the sport’s most popular fighter, but was his time last year? Will the WWE surprise people and give Dolph Ziggler the win and go up against Cena or Rollins or the title? No one knows.
This much is clear. Finally . . . The Rock has come back to the Royal Rumble.
