The 2015 Royal Rumble is here and for the first time in a few years we don’t know who is going to win.
For most of the last year, all eyes pointed on Roman Reigns, the man envisioned to be the next Hulk Hogan, from the alliteration of his name to the size of his biceps. But Reigns hasn’t exactly set the world on fire. He’s a decent worker, but his mic skills are seriously lacking and this is WrestleMania afterall. Reigns might one day deserve to sit on top of the mountain, but that day is not now.
Could he still win? Yes. When Vince McMahon wants something, he usually gets it. But there’s also case to be made for Daniel Bryan to win the Royal Rumble and look for a WrestleMania repeat.
Bryan is not as hot as he was a year ago, but he’s still hot and he’s popular in the Bay Area, the site of WrestleMania, after his shilling for the San Francisco Giants last season.
Bryan winning and then defeating either Brock Lesnar, John Cena or Seth Rollins at Wrestlemania would be an excellent direction.
There’s also a case to be made for Dolph Ziggler, long considered one of the game’s best workers, but who inexplicably has been denied a run at the top. He made a big impact at Survivor Series and after getting storyline-fired few the past few weeks, he’s in a good spot for a major run.
Dean Ambrose, whom most considered will one day win the WWE championship, could also win the Rumble, but it feels as though it may be a year too soon for the menace to society.
The moral of the story? Anyone but Roman Reigns. His push would be perceived as corporate ramming a champion down our throats, rather than building up a champion organically.
Bryan is the hottest wrestler in the company. He should win.
