UFC on Fox 14 takes place this Saturday, January 24th at Tele2 Arena in Stockholm, Sweden. Headlined by top light heavyweight contenders Alexander Gustafsson and Anthony “Rumble” Johnson, the winner is expected to be next in line for a title shot against champion Jon Jones. Announced earlier today by the UFC, all main card fighters are on weight for the event.
Alexander Gustafsson vs. Anthony Johnson
Alexander Gustafsson (16-2-0) was previously set to face Jon Jones in a rematch for the light heavyweight title in September, but was forced out of the bout due to injury. He is now set to face Anthony “Rumble” Johnson (18-4-0), who is riding an 8-fight winning streak heading into Saturday night. Johnson’s famous knockout power against Gustafsson’s speed will make for a can’t-miss title eliminator matchup.
Dan Henderson vs. Gegard Mousasi
Former Strikeforce fighters Dan Henderson (30-12) and Gegard Mousasi (35-4-2) battle at middleweight in the co-main event. Dan Henderson (44) has been in the hurt business for a long time, competing in Pride, Strikeforce and the UFC. Henderson has gone 1-4 in his last 5 fights, needing another victory to stay strong in the UFC’s extremely competitive middleweight division. Mousasi is a former Dream and Strikeforce light heavyweight champion going 2-2 in the UFC. This will be a middleweight bout between two extremely experienced opponents.
Phil Davis vs. Ryan Bader
Phil Davis (13-2-0) and Ryan Bader (19-4-0) meet at light heavyweight on the main card. Phil Davis is neck and neck with the light heavyweights competing in the main event, handing Gustafsson one of only 2 losses in his career and losing to Anthony Johnson by decision. Ryan Bader is currently riding a three-fight winning streak leading into Saturday. A win for either Bader or Davis will most likely pin them against the loser of Gustafsson vs. Johnson.
Akira Corassani vs. Sam Scilia
Akira Corassani (12-5-1) and Sam Scilia (13-5) meet at featherweight in UFC on Fox 14. This is a high stakes fight for both featherweights needing a win to improve their organizational and featherweight standing. Corassani (3-2 UFC) has lost two consecutive fights to Dustin Porier and Max Holloway by KO. Scilia (3-4 UFC) is 2-2 in his last 4 fights and a win over Corassani would improve his future prospects.
Gustafsson and Johnson compete for the title shot at UFC on Fox 14, live on Fox Saturday at 8 p.m./5 p.m. ETPT.
