Mike Tyson Previews the Action of Glory 19

While most famously known for his historic boxing career, “Iron” Mike Tyson is set to join the broadcasting team for Glory 19 on February 6th in Hampton, Virginia. While filming segments for a countdown-style preview set to air on Spike on Friday, January 30th, Glory released an outtake from last week’s shoot. Poking fun at his infamous ear-bite of Evander Holyfield, “Iron Mike” promoted the coming kickboxing event.

Glory 19’s main event features a rubber match between Glory heavyweight champion Rico Verhoeven and Errol Zimmerman. Bloody Elbow reports that Verhoeven got the chance to meet Mike Tyson, an inspirational icon in his formative years.

“Mike Tyson was one of my idols. I was too young to see him fight live but I did see one of his very last fights live. [Mostly I have watched him on YouTube]. He was good; one blow would knock guys to the canvas,” said Verhoeven.

Verhoeven’s challenger Errol Zimmerman also commented on Mike Tyson’s participation. Zimmerman’s fighting reputation is similar to “Iron” Mike’s, famed for his one-touch KO power.

“He did not win on points. He wanted to take his opponents out in the ring, just like me,” he said. “I can’t believe we were able to talk. We had a good conversation, it was like I had known him for many years. It was really a very nice conversation.”

In addition to the heavyweight title main event, Glory Favorite Joe Schilling faces Robert Thomas in the co-main event, Andy Ristie faces Steve Moxon in the Glory “Superfight Series” and a 4-man welterweight contender tournament features Raymond Daniels and Nieky “The Natural” Holzken. Catch the action on February 6th at 9/8C on Spike TV from Hampton Coliseum.
