Desmond Green (12-3) was surprisingly cut from Bellator Fighting Championships after making it all the way to the finals of the Season 10 Bellator Featherweight Tournament. He lost to Danny Weichel (34-8) via rear naked choke in the second round at Bellator 119. He then was shockingly dropped from the organization when CEO Bjorn Rebney stepped down and Scott Coker took over.

“It surprised me.” Green said on being cut, “I didn’t have adequate training on the fight. I couldn’t get my BJJ up to the level I wanted. Bjorn said I could stay then Scott took over and cut me via email. Then i got hooked up with Jeff Aronson in alchemist and got an upcoming fight and some management.”

Desmond Green will face off with MMA lower weight class pioneer and former WEC Bantamweight Champion, Miguel Torres (43-7) at Titan Fighting Championships 31 on Friday night in Tampa Bay, Florida. In preparation for this contest, green has upped his game to match up with the crafty vet and he’s learned from his mistakes in his last fight against Weichel.

“Training is going great, I’m involved in some absolutely crazy training at Tri-Star and I’m looking to get a statement win at Titan. It’s the first gym where I will have professional partners and set schedules with different coaches for different aspects of MMA. When I made it to the finals of Bellator I didn’t have a lot of resources but now that has changed.”

Alchemist sees a lot of promise with Green and wanted to get him somebody that would make the world want to watch his fight. That somebody was former WEC standout Miguel Torres.

“Originally, i didn’t know who my opponent was. I wanted to fight somebody good and Jeff said he wanted to give me somebody that would give me recognition. I want to get a big statement win and a quick finish to propel myself because Torres is a huge name in the MMA world and with my new gym I know I can get the quick finish.”

Torres has 24 submission victories in his career to his credit and is currently riding a 3 fight winning streak. However, no number will shake the confidence of Desmond, who is looking to score a a bonus check from a stoppage and make his bank account resemble his last name….Green.

“I see me finishing him somewhere in the fight, I feel quicker and stronger. He has the BJJ edge but my conditioning is way better and my plan is to bring the pressure and go out there and try to break him.”

Highly passionate MMA Journalist, and I've followed the sport ever since my favorite fighter, Vitor Belfort won the heavyweight tournament at UFC 12. After that I've tried to go to every local MMA event around the Gulf Coast and surrounding areas and decided to make it a point to have a career in some aspect in the fighting sport other than fighting in general (didn't want to ruin my face). I'm currently enrolled at Southeastern Louisiana University working towards a degree in Communication. I cover MMA, Boxing and Football for The Daily Star newspaper in my hometown of Hammond, Louisiana, in addition to working as a promotional writer for a local Boxing promotion known as BoxnCar and I cover boxing for 8countnews.com however SciFighting.com is my home. My main goal is to bring more publicity to MMA in my area and to the sport as a whole as all of us involved with the sport are merely scratching the surface and laying the foundation of what mixed martial arts competition will be further down the road.
