Today’s roundup is covering news form October 19th to October 26th. Whether you need a refresher of last week’s news or the results of events over the weekend, here’s an MMA roundup of last week in review.

Cain Velasquez Injured, Replaced by Mark Hunt for Interim Title Fight

Cain Velasquez suffered a right knee injury and was forced to withdraw from his title defense in UFC 180. Mark Hunt will take the champion’s place, competing for the interim heavyweight title against No. 1 contender Fabricio Werdum on November 15th in Mexico City.

Daniel Cormier Named Co-Host Of “UFC Tonight”

If ever there was a hardest working man in MMA, Daniel Cormier fits the bill. Along with joining hosts Kenny Florian, Karyn Bryant and Ariel Halwani, he’s been named the captain of the team at AKA (American Kickboxing Academy). “D.C.” is also training to challenge Jon Jones for the light heavyweight title in UFC 182.

Jose Aldo was able to defend the featherweight title against Chad Mendes over the course of a five round battle, taking the unanimous decision victory (49-46 x3). In light heavyweight, Phil Davis defeated Glover Teixeira by unanimous decision (30-27×3). Fábio Maldonado defeated Hans Stringer via TKO (punches). Darren Elkins defeated Lucas Martins via split decision (27-30, 30-27, 30-27). Beneil Dariush Dariush defeated Carlos Diego Ferreira via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27).

We had the pleasure of interviewing the light heavyweight champ for a second time, catching up with “The Hardcore Kid” in preparation for his second title defense against Linton Vassell. We talked fighting style, cage strategy, and mental preparation for high level competition.

Female Featherweights Debut in Bellator 130 Main Card

Bellator 130 would feature the promotion’s first women’s featherweight feature fight. Marloes Conenen and Annalisa Bucci were signed to Bellator over the summer, joining the three other female fighters currently on Bellator’s WMMA roster. Former Strikeforce champ Marloes Coenen was set to face Muay Thai Specialist Annalisa Bucci to kick off the promotion’s WMMA division.

Light heavyweight champion Emanuel Newton defeated challenger Linton Vassell via R5 rear-naked choke after an intense back and forth battle. TNA-MMA crossover sensation Bobby Lashley capitalized on Karl Etherington’s slip on the mat, winning by R1 submission (Punches). Marloes Coenen impressed Bellator fans by taking the win over Annalisa Bucci via R3 submission (modified rear-naked choke). Dave Jansen defeated Rick Hawn by the only unanimous decision of the main card (30-27×2, 29-28). You can also read the play-by-play prelim results of the exciting night.
