Bellator 126: Brandon Halsey Wins the Middleweight Title!

Brandon Halsey defeated the experienced Russian, Alexander Schlemenko with an amazing rear naked choke in the first 35 seconds of the 1st round.  The action packed event took place this evening at the GCU Arena in Phoenix, Arizona.

Halsey has maintained an undefeated professional MMA record and now holds the middleweight title belt for Bellator MMA.  After his victory he addressed the crowd.

“I felt like a monster, baby,” said Halsey with the crowd chanting “USA”.  “I feel great. I wouldn’t be here without God.  I want to give all the thanks to him. I put in the work. I put in the training. Putting this belt around my waist feels great.”

Patricky Pitbull lost his match against Marcin Held with an arduous battle that ended with a unanimous decision in Held’s favor. The arena was drowned with the sounds of a booing crowd as the fight progressed with Freire unable to get any strikes against his opponent. Held made significant progress in the second round, cutting Freire just above his right eye. He went for submissions but didn’t manage to completely subdue the Brazilian.  The fight went the distance with the ultimate outcome landing in the hands of the judges.

While Bubba Jenkins also took his fight to the last round with the judges awarding him a victory over his opponent, Thiago Meller, Mike Richman quickly defeated Ed West with a solid knockout at two minutes and forty four seconds of the first round.  The rest of the night’s fights were quite exciting with a series of first and second round finishes on the preliminary card.
