Bellator announced today that John Schulz has been forced out of the lightweight feature fight in Bellator 124 due to health health issues. Tom Bagnasco will now face Ryan Couture for both fighters’ crucial Bellator debut. Who will be the first to make a big impression in the organization?

Ryan Couture has expressed a higher level of confidence than ever coming into his first Bellator fight. In our most recent interview, he credits teammate Justin James as an important part of his training preparation: “He’s a tough up and comer that I’ve been working with for a few years. That fact that we had a fight on the same card made it very convenient. We’ve also got the UFC’s Kevin Lee, Bryan Caraway has been around a lot. I’m sure I’m leaving a bunch of people out but we’ve got a great crew out here that make sure I’m in the shape that I need to be in.”

Ryan’s career began with seven fights in Strikeforce before making his debut in the UFC. He has won two consecutive fights in Battlegrounds MMA heading into Bellator, and he’s looking to continue the trend against Tom Bagnasco in Friday’s matchup. Bagnasco has experience in Triple X Cage fighting and NAFC, earning all three of his career victories consecutively by submission. He will make for a great opponent, as Couture has taken his last two victories via rear-naked choke. It will make for an exciting matchup when both lightweights see an opportunity for a submission victory.

Bellator 124  takes place Friday, September 12th on Spike TV from Compuware Arena in Plymouth, Michigan. Tune in at 6:45/5:45C for the prelims and 9/8C for the Bellator main card.
