Two former teammates and training partners at the Blackzillian camp engaged in a war of words recently after Anthony Johnson was quoted as saying he “wasn’t surprised” when UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones was injured after a sparring session with Alistair Overeem.
Rumble Johnson added that he had seen ‘Reem bully and injure fighters before at the camp, following this statement, a few of Alistair’s current training partners took to the media to denounce this belief.
Greg Jackson even said that there was no foul play and that the injury was “just one of those things.”
Recently Overeem was able to give his thoughts on the issue in an interview with MMAJunkie and the results weren’t pretty.
“Jealousy,” said Overeem. “I can’t think of any other explanations. I have no relationship with the guy.”
“All this talking to the media? I don’t get. Where I come from, if I have a problem, I’m coming directly to you and I’m asking you what’s up. For me, that’s like p—y behavior. Maybe I’m missing something and I’m just crazy. On the other hand, I do feel honored people are saying my name in the media. It must mean I have some sort of importance.”
Alistair will next take on “Big” Ben Rothwell at UFC Fight Night this Friday night but the Heavyweight sees a potential bout with the man that called him out (Johnson) in his future.
“I have different priorities right now, but I could definitely see that fight happening in the future,” said Overeem.
In Rumble’s only Heavyweight bout he defeated former UFC Heavyweight Champion Andrei “The Pitbull” Arlovski via unanimous decision at WSOF 2 back in March of 2013.
Rumble responded to Overeem’s comments with some brief comments of his own via his Twitter account.
“That’s the cutest thing I’ve heard all day. He can be fake all he wants that’s on him. Seeing him would make me spit in his face. How can Overshit call me a pussy when he ducked JDS? Biggest pussy in the heavyweight division. I know the truth kid lol a cpl of us do!”
