War Machine Extradition to Nevada Complete

In case you missed the news this weekend.  Jon Kopenhaver, also known as “War Machine”, a former UFC and Bellator fighter who was recently released by the promotion, was finally transferred from the Ventura County Jail in Southern California to a Clark County detention center in the state of Nevada.  Unless you’ve been living under a proverbial “rock” then you likely know the tragic story of uncontrolled violence that lead to his arrest.

On August 8th War Machine was reported to have forced entry into his, believed to be, ex-girlfriend’s home in Las Vegas.  Once there he found her with another man and began an assault on the two that ended with Christy Mack (his ex girlfriend and also notable porn star) receiving severe injuries to her face and body.  The specific details of the assault have been reported through a number of stories (including here at SciFighting).  For those that may have forgotten the gruesome images of Christy Mack’s injuries you might want to take a look below to refresh your memory.

The exact nature of the cause of War Machine’s rampage that evening is unknown and believed to be disputed by both the reported victim (Christy Mack) and Koppenhaver’s attorney.  Just a few days after the assault took place, while on the run from authorities, War Machine took to twitter and proclaimed he was “fighting for his life”.  His allegations were such that he responded in self defense when Christy Mack took a kitchen knife and attempted to stop Koppenhaver from beating her male companion.

Most pundits have scrutinized the validity of his defense specifically due to the extremity of the injuries sustained by Christy Mack.  Those same pundits claim that his actions appear to have been far more than necessary to satisfy the basic requirements for self defense, leading others to speculate that there is more to the story than is being reported in his defense.

His initial hearing in Nevada has yet to take place, however once it does, we should learn more details as to the specific approach his defense to these allegations and the charges he faces with the district attorney’s office will take.

As always, we will keep you apprised of the details in this matter as they emerge.
