Earlier this month when current UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones was sparring with former Strikeforce Heavyweight Champion Alistair Overeem, Jones suffered an injury.

Then what followed was a media frenzy.

Did Overeem hurt Jones on purpose?

Is Overeem too dangerous to strike with in the gym?

Does Overeem get off on hurting people?

Is it bad for your health to spar with the Reem?

Does Alistair Overeem have ties with Al Quaeda?

Is Alistair Overeem the Anti-Christ?

Ok so maybe the last two are a bit drastic. But even still after various interviews with many of Alistair’s training partners their seems to be a consensus that the kickboxing legend does not inflict too much punishment on purpose.

Training partner Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone state, “Overeem is a good team member, and not irresponsible in his sparring.”

Russian heavyweight andtraining partner Ruslan Magomedov offered,  “Overeem is just trying to show he is at the top of the heap at Jackson’s.”

“Overeem has just come to the gym. I think, he just tries to show how tough he is, that he can beat everyone,” said Magomedov.

“Maybe that’s why he goes hard. But I don’t feel he does it on purpose. He didn’t want to injure Arlovski since he knew Andrei has Bigfoot rematch lined up. He just decided to show that he’s one of the best HW’s in the world, that’s all! And Arlovski could actually become his next opponent. If Andrei goes past Bigfoot, he can easily be matched up against Overeem, in my opinion.”

Then the issue bared its ugly face again when “The Pitbull” Andrei Arlovski stated that Overeem’s sparring partners share a high rate of injury.

Overeem went to his Instagram to retort.

“Sometimes amazing how media twist and turns things,” wrote Overeem. “For ratings unfortunately I suppose. But rest assured, me and AA go hard inside the gym! To better each other. And after were all good and drink together. Non alcoholic of-course cos both our fights are coming up! And for the people attempting to throw gas on the fire… Don’t worry – I’m a firm believer in karma – your time will come 🙂

Highly passionate MMA Journalist, and I've followed the sport ever since my favorite fighter, Vitor Belfort won the heavyweight tournament at UFC 12. After that I've tried to go to every local MMA event around the Gulf Coast and surrounding areas and decided to make it a point to have a career in some aspect in the fighting sport other than fighting in general (didn't want to ruin my face). I'm currently enrolled at Southeastern Louisiana University working towards a degree in Communication. I cover MMA, Boxing and Football for The Daily Star newspaper in my hometown of Hammond, Louisiana, in addition to working as a promotional writer for a local Boxing promotion known as BoxnCar and I cover boxing for 8countnews.com however SciFighting.com is my home. My main goal is to bring more publicity to MMA in my area and to the sport as a whole as all of us involved with the sport are merely scratching the surface and laying the foundation of what mixed martial arts competition will be further down the road.
