Summerslam was the hottest ticket in town on Sunday in Los Angeles for pro wrestling fans — and MMA athletes.
Several top MMA stars attended SummerSlam and some of them made their way backstage to hang out with the WWE talent.
UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones, the pound-for-pound No. 1 mixed martial artist in the world, watched the show from a box suite at Staples Center. Jones posed for a picture with WWE Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan and future WWE Hall of Famer The Big Show.
He also hung out with Lesnar after the match, and posted a video of him talking about Lesnar, a former UFC Heavyweight Champion. Jones posted several photos of his SummerSlam experience. Here’s how the conversation with Lesnar in the video went:
Jones: “Hey, I’m here with big Brock Lesnar right after the smack down. How you feelin’?”
Lesnar: “Good, man, good.”
Jones: “That was a lot of fun. This was my first time getting to watch him do his thing and he was a beast out there, the people loved him.”
Lesnar: “Thank you, thank you.”
Jones: “Good times.”
UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey also appeared, ringside, at the event, with her fellow female fighters, whom she calls “The Four Horsewomen,” named after the famous “Four Horseman” of pro wrestling.
Paul Heyman, Lesnar’s manager, has spoke of wanting to bring Rousey into the WWE.
Professional wrestling and mixed martial arts have increasingly become intertwined, with many MMA fighters wanting to associate themselves with wrestlers. UFC heavyweight Josh Barnett frequently cuts wrestling-style promos after his fights, as did Chael Sonnen. Rousey got her nickname “Rowdy” from WWE icon Rowdy Roddy Piper. Lesnar is the only man to win the WWE Heavyweight Championship and the UFC Heavyweight championship.
Rousey tweeted her thoughts throughout the show, praising Paige, Bo Dallas, Roman Reigns, The Usos and Bray Wyatt.
