Gina Carano & Marloes Coenen Sign With Bellator?; “Sexyama” and “The Korean Zombie” Receive Next Opponents

Gina Carano (7-1) and Marloes Coenen (21-6) have reportedly both signed with Bellator according to a number of websites, including: WMMA.com.

Gina was a pivotal factor in putting women’s MMA on the map and she went undefeated in her first 7 bouts and became the women’s face of MMA in Strikeforce before losing to Cris Cyborg 5 years ago. Since then she has starred in many movies including Fast and the Furious 6 and Haywire.

She was in recent ongoing negotiations with the UFC which makes the fact that if she allegedly signed with Bellator that much juicier.

Coenen was also a women’s MMA pioneer, performing her best work in Strikeforce where she defeated the likes of Roxane Modaferri, Sarah Kaufman and Liz Carmouche. She, like Gina, also lost to Cyborg only a year ago in her last outing at Invicta 6.

“Sexyama” Yoshihiro Akiyama (13-5) will face off against Amir Sadallah (6-4) on the UFC Fight Night “Hunt vs Nelson” main card.

Akiyama has dropped his last 4 bouts, most recently to Jake Sheilds by unanimous decision at UFC 144 2 years ago and Sadallah also dropped a decision in his last fight 2 years ago to Dan Hardy at UFC on Fuel TV 5.

Former UFC Featherweight number 1 contender, The “Korean Zombie” Chan Sung Jung (13-4) will return to the cage on  October 4th in Stockholm for UFC Fight Night “Nelson vs Story” to take on Akira Corassani (12-4-1)

Corassani had won 3 in a row before his streak was halted by “The Diamond” Dustin Poirier by tko :42 seconds into the second round at TUF Nations Finale.

Jung hasn’t seen the cage since he was last defeated by longtime and current UFC Featherweight Champion, Jose Aldo via tko in round 4 in their main event match-up at UFC 163.

Highly passionate MMA Journalist, and I've followed the sport ever since my favorite fighter, Vitor Belfort won the heavyweight tournament at UFC 12. After that I've tried to go to every local MMA event around the Gulf Coast and surrounding areas and decided to make it a point to have a career in some aspect in the fighting sport other than fighting in general (didn't want to ruin my face). I'm currently enrolled at Southeastern Louisiana University working towards a degree in Communication. I cover MMA, Boxing and Football for The Daily Star newspaper in my hometown of Hammond, Louisiana, in addition to working as a promotional writer for a local Boxing promotion known as BoxnCar and I cover boxing for 8countnews.com however SciFighting.com is my home. My main goal is to bring more publicity to MMA in my area and to the sport as a whole as all of us involved with the sport are merely scratching the surface and laying the foundation of what mixed martial arts competition will be further down the road.
