“Mighty Mouse” Recieves Next Title Challenger and Diaz Bashes Cerrone via Twitter

Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson (20-2-1) will look to make his 5th UFC Flyweight Title defense against a 10 fight UFC veteran who’s zip-lining a 3 fight winning streak inside the octagon.

Chris Cariaso (17-5) will tangle with the feather footed but heavy handed champion and the bout will serve as the co-main event of UFC 177 on August 30th.

Johnson was the inaugural UFC 125 pound champion and in his last bout he defeated Ali Bagautinov by way of unanimous decision dominating the Russian for 5 rounds at UFC 174 and halting the Soviet’s 11 fight winning streak.

Cariaso last defeated Louis Smolka via split decision at UFC Fight Night 40 to earn this opportunity at UFC gold.

Speaking of opportunity.

Nate Diaz took the opportunity today to trash talk former opponent Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone who unlike the younger Diaz brother actually has a fight coming up.

A scrap tomorrow night against Jim Miller at UFC Fight Night 45.

Diaz beat Cerrone via unanimous decision at UFC 141 back in 2011 and decided to take to Twitter to allow Donald to know about his disdain for him.

His tweet read;

Nate is currently holding on a contract to get “more money” however in light of his latest tweet and his current situation, Dana White made this comment on UFC.com;

“Nate can do whatever he wants to do,” White said. “Nate can sit out and not suck any UFC whatever, for as long as he wants to. Who cares, he’s a grown man. Sit out for as long as you want, sit out the rest of your career, it’s your decision. But to start making fun of guys who actually like to fight, and guys who go out there and put on unbelievable fights and people love to see him? [Cowboy] steps up and does what he does. People love ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone.”

Highly passionate MMA Journalist, and I've followed the sport ever since my favorite fighter, Vitor Belfort won the heavyweight tournament at UFC 12. After that I've tried to go to every local MMA event around the Gulf Coast and surrounding areas and decided to make it a point to have a career in some aspect in the fighting sport other than fighting in general (didn't want to ruin my face). I'm currently enrolled at Southeastern Louisiana University working towards a degree in Communication. I cover MMA, Boxing and Football for The Daily Star newspaper in my hometown of Hammond, Louisiana, in addition to working as a promotional writer for a local Boxing promotion known as BoxnCar and I cover boxing for 8countnews.com however SciFighting.com is my home. My main goal is to bring more publicity to MMA in my area and to the sport as a whole as all of us involved with the sport are merely scratching the surface and laying the foundation of what mixed martial arts competition will be further down the road.
