After succumbing to what was said to be a “non-severe” neck injury, Current UFC Featherweight Champion, Jose Aldo (24-1) withdrew from his scheduled rematch with currently UFC ranked #1 contender, Chad Mendes (16-1).

Mendes had fought his way back to a rematch with the 145 pound juggernaut, winning his last 5 since his UFC 142 first round knockout via knee loss.

Aldo hasn’t tasted defeat in almost a decade, in which he’s gone 17-0, 8-0 in the WEC and 6-0 in the UFC.

Following the postponing of the rematch 2 years in the making, UFC 176 has completely folded its’ hand, but where would the Gegard Mousasi (35-4-2) vs Jacare Souza (20-3) fight land?

UFC Fight Night 50 will now play host to the two top ten Middleweights, Mousasi coming in at 7th and Jacare at 4th.

Mousasi has only lost once in the last 5 years coming via unanimous decision against former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion, Lyoto Machida and Souza once in the last 4 against former Strikeforce Middleweight Champion, Luke Rockhold by unanimous decision as well.

In Mousasi’s last appearance he gave Mark Munoz his second straight defeat, by choking him out in the first round at Ultimate Fight Night 41.

Souza most recently defeated GSP prodigy Francis Carmont, handing him his first UFC loss via unanimous decision at Ultimate Fight Night 36.

Highly passionate MMA Journalist, and I've followed the sport ever since my favorite fighter, Vitor Belfort won the heavyweight tournament at UFC 12. After that I've tried to go to every local MMA event around the Gulf Coast and surrounding areas and decided to make it a point to have a career in some aspect in the fighting sport other than fighting in general (didn't want to ruin my face). I'm currently enrolled at Southeastern Louisiana University working towards a degree in Communication. I cover MMA, Boxing and Football for The Daily Star newspaper in my hometown of Hammond, Louisiana, in addition to working as a promotional writer for a local Boxing promotion known as BoxnCar and I cover boxing for 8countnews.com however SciFighting.com is my home. My main goal is to bring more publicity to MMA in my area and to the sport as a whole as all of us involved with the sport are merely scratching the surface and laying the foundation of what mixed martial arts competition will be further down the road.
