This edition of round up features 3 main events, 1 title fight and 1 number one contenders match up that was released earlier this morning.
First off UFC 176 Aldo v.s. Mendes 2 has its’ main card starting to shape up with the latest edition being a lightweight tilt between former lightweight number 1 contender, and currently 10th ranked, Gray Maynard (11-3-1) going up against Fabricio Camoes (14-8-1). This bout is looking like a loser leaves town kind of match-up, where whoever isn’t the victor will attain their third strike and UFC loss in a row. Gray has been TKO’d twice in his last two, gifting T.J. Grant a title shot at UFC 160 in the first round then losing a rematch with Nate Diaz at TUF 18 finale in the first as well. Fabricio lost a decision to Melvin Guillard at UFC 148 then was arm barred by Jim Miller in the first round at UFC 168.
UFN 48 in Macau just received its’ main event and what appears to be the co-main event as well.
8th ranked UFC Middleweight Michael Bisping (24-6) will look to rebound from a loss against U.S. Army vet Tim Kennedy when he squares off against Cung Le (9-2) on August 23rd. The bout will headline the event and the last time UFC stopped in Macau, Cung Le stopped Rich Franklin in the first round via vicious KO, however the Asian fighter hasn’t step foot inside the octagon in almost 2 years.
What seems to be the co-feature of the night will be between 6th ranked welterweight Hector Lombard (34-4-1) and 9th ranked Dong Hyun Kim (19-2-1). Lombard is coming off 2 big wins over Nate Marquardt via KO in the first at UFC 166 and sending Jake Shields his walking papers winning via unanimous decision at UFC 171. Kim has won four in a row, his last 2 being impressive knockouts over Erik Silva in the 2nd round at UFN 29 and against John Hatheway in the main event of TUFCF.
UFC 177 on August 30th will be the date of arguably the match of last year, the Light Heavyweight Title rematch between Jon Jones (20-1) and Alexander Gustafsson (16-2). Both combatants have won their follow-up contests, Jones defended his strap soundly against Glover Teixeira at UFC 172 and Gustafsson TKO’d Jimi Manuwa in the second round at UFN 37.
Then leaked via Dana White’s Twitter earlier this afternoon, UFC on Fox 12 on July 26th recieved a highly anticaipated 170 pound number 1 contenders match between the 5th ranked “The Immortal” Matt Brown (19-11) and the number 1 ranked “Ruthless” Robbie Lawler (23-10). Lawler rebounded soundly from dropping his previous title bout to champ Johnny Hendricks at UFC 171 by dominating Jake Ellenberger and stopping him via 3rd round TKO at UFC 173 last Saturday. Matt Brown has been riding an incredible wave of momentum, winning 7 in a row and demolishing Erick Silva via TKO in the 3rd round in his last contest at UFN 40.
