UFC 175 will be headlined by the Middleweight Title fight between Chris Weidman and Lyoto Machida as well as the coaches heated battle between Chael Sonnen and Wanderlei Silva. Now the card just received a monster heavyweight matchup.
12th ranked Stefan “Skyscraper” Struve (25-6) has been medically cleared following some heart complications to take on TUF 10 alum, Matt “Meathead” Mitrione (7-3).
Struve had a 4 fight winning streak snapped in his most recent bout, losing by tko in the 3rd round to the hammer fisted hawaiian Mark Hunt at UFC on Fuel TV 8. Meathead just jumped back into the winning column following a performance of the night victory over Shawn Jordan with a second to spare in the first round of their contest at TUFF China.
The third installment of The Ultimate Fighter Brazil will come to conclusion on May 31st and crown a new Middleweight and Heavyweight TUF Champion, however the event’s main event was in jeopardy when former UFC Heavyweight Champion Junior Dos Santos had to withdraw from the card.
However a new opponent was named to take on the crow-hopping Croation, Stipe Miocic (11-1).
Fabio Maldonado (21-6) has stepped up to the plate to defend his native country of Brazil in the place of JDS.
Stipe has gone 5-1 in his UFC tenure including back-to-back decision victories in his last two octagon appearances against Roy Nelson and Gabriel Gonzaga at UFC 161 and UFC on FOx 10. Fabio is also enjoying a decision winning streak of his own, having his hand raised over Roger Hollett, Joey Beltran and Gian Villante at UFC on FX 8, UFN 29 and UFN 38.
Finally UFC on Fox 12 added two high profile returns to its’ return to the shark city of San Jose.
The first is a top 10 lightweight tilt.
After hinting at retirement, 3rd ranked “The Punk” Josh Thomson (20-6-1) will fight once more in his hometown against TUF 12 runner-up and 10th ranked Michael Johnson (15-8).
Josh recently lost a highly controversial 5 round split decision to former UFC Lightweight Champion, Ben Henderson in the main event of UFC on Fox 10.
Johnson on the opposite end of the spectrum has enjoyed a 3 fight winning streak as of late defeating Joe Lauzon via unanimous decsion at UFN 26, then a victory coming by knockout in the 2nd round against Gleison Tibau at UFC 168 and delivering Melvin Guillard his pink slip by a decision win at UFN 37.
Then the “Rumble” has his second fight in his latest UFC stint.
Anthony Johnson has evolved completely and thoroughly since his return to the octagon, he absolutley dominated renown top-5 world ranked Light Heavyweight Phil Davis via unanimous decision at UFC 172 to propel himself in to the top 5. After winning his UFC return, Johnson has now won 7 straight.
Antonio Rogerio Nogueira (21-5) will be next in line to challenge the newly reformed Johnson. Antonio is coming off of 2 straight victories over Tito Ortiz via tko in the first at UFC 140 and a unanimous decision nod over former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Rashad Evans at UFC 156. However Lil’Nog hasn’t been in action in over a year and will have to heavily prepare for the Blackzillian Bomber Johnson.
