O, Canada will be the next stop for Bellator as it brings you their 119th installment featuring the Season 10 Featherweight tournament final between Daniel Weichel (33-8) and Des Green (11-2).
The first bout on the Casino Rama via Rama Ontario card will be a welterweight tilt.
Dream welterweight champion, Marius Zaromskis (19-8-1) will look to rebound from back-to-back tournament losses against Vaughn Anderson (16-2-1) who just had a 9 fight win streak snapped when War Machine choked him out in the 2nd round of their Bellator 100 affair.
The second contest of the main card pits two heavyweights against each other.
Undefeated stoppage specialist Raphael “The Silencer” Butler (8-0) will look to add another first round knockout to his Bellator resume against Nick Rossbourough (23-18). Butler is 3-0 under the BFC banner and no one has been able to take him past 3 minutes. Taking out Jeremiah O’neal, Joseph Bryant and Josh Burns at Bellator 96, 105 and 107. He will look to offer the welcome mat to newcomer Rossbourough.
Then the Co-main event has 10 time Bellator vet and 2 time tournament finalist, Marlon Sandro (24-5-1) looking to enjoy his 8th victory inside the BFC cage when he squares off against Canada’s own Chris Horodecki (20-4-1). Since the WEC merger, Chris has fought exclusively in Canada going 4-1-1.
The final bout of the evening will be for $100,000 and a shot at the Bellator featherweight gold.
Desmond Green has been enjoying his intense training camp en route to Friday’s showdown.
“Training is going really good, I’ve been doing 3 a days as we get closer to the fight, I couldn’t honestly be anymore ready. I’m not training any differently for Danny, I’m just working on sharpening the tools that I already have. I know I have the skill set to win.”
Weichel has flourished from his training as well.
“I’m really happy with the way my camp has gone, no injuries and alot of high quality sparring sessions, and my weight cut has been very comfortable too. I’m always training every aspect of the game, so I didn’t change too much. We’ve made some adjustments due to the fact that Des is a southpaw and has a strong wrestling background, but I’m always prepared to fight anywhere the fight goes.”
Green’s confidence and ability as well as his teammates have helped him succeed so far in his Bellator career.
“Hard work and dedication, also my coaching team and entire support system. I could fight Pit Bull or Curran, it doesn’t matter, they’d both lose to me, I would also love a rematch with Gurreiro. I honestly feel like I can beat anyone I come up against.”
Fabricio Gurreiro is Green’s only loss in Bellator which came by unanimous decision at Bellator 99. Since then Des has rode a 3 fight win streak including victories over Angelo Sanchez via tko at Bellator 105 then 2 unanimous decision victories in a row in his quarterfinal match-up with Mike Richman at Bellator 110 and in the semifinals against Will Martinez at Bellator 114.
Daniel “The Weasel” Weichel has won 10 of his last 11 fights coming into the Bellator 119 featherweight final.
“Hard work and 24/7 dedication pays off, I am training with the best team out there in Frankfurt, Germany. MMA Spirit is the place to be, we have the best striking, wrestling and Jiu Jitsu instructors. Mohamed Ouali, Saba Bolaghi and Din Thomas have taken me to the next level, besides all my great training partners. I know Daniel Straus will get his shot first at either Pit Bull or Curran. It doesn’t matter who I fight next, I only care about the one with the belt around his waist. You have to beat the best in order to beat the best!”
Green sees the fight ending his way via 2nd round tko but Danny feels it’s his time to shine.
“I don’t have a single doubt that I will beat Desmond and win this tournament, you don’t want to miss the best “Weasel” ever to step in the cage!”
Bellator 119 will have its’ main card presented on Spike TV at 9pm this Friday night and SciFighting.com will be following the action with round by round updates and both prelims and main card results.
