Jon Jones turned in a brilliant performance against Glover Teixeira and proved to fans that this opponent was by far Jones’ toughest test to date.
Jones (20-1) brought the fight wherever he wanted and snapped the 20-fight win streak of Teixeira (22-3) with ease, and at every turn. Without using much of his devastating ground work, Jones instead dictated the pace and distance from which they exchanged on the feet, staying in tight on Teixeira and battering him against the cage.
In the co-main event, Anthony Johnson (17-4) made big waves as he dominated Phil Davis (12-2) with a stand up clinic, one that we’ve never seen from Johnson as he matures in front of our eyes in this most recent run in the UFC. Johnson’s win granted him a big step up in competition as he made the fight ugly for Davis, who usually finds a way to win.
Former Strikeforce middleweight champion Luke Rockhold (12-2) put in a strong performance and earned his second UFC victory, and second win in a row. After a takedown attempt and subsequent scramble on the ground, Rockhold locked up a reverse triangle choke which helped him isolate the arm of Boetsch (17-7) and finish the fight with a kimura.
