A stunning end to a highly-anticipated fight isn’t always a good thing. In some cases, it can be a step back for both fighters. Such was the case at GLORY 15: Istanbul when Tyrone Spong fought Gokhan Saki in the finals of the one-night light heavyweight tournament.
Spong threw two consecutive leg kicks at Saki with the second kick, being checked just so that it snapped the tibia and fibula of Spong.
As a show of good sportsmanship, Saki rushed to Spong’s side to help him through the initial shock of the injury.
Fortunately for Spong and his friends and fans, the 28-year-old released a video from his hospital bed as well as a written statement through his team, the Blackzilians.
“I want family, friends and fans to know I’m okay,” Spong said. “The trip home to Florida was a long one and I am thankful to be back in Florida. I had surgery in this morning and it went perfectly.
“My doctors said it turned out to be a clean break and they feel confident that I will recover 100 percent. They said I can be training for a fight as early as six months if I rehab properly. I feel very optimistic.”
