Tim Kennedy is perhaps the most prominent member of the military in the UFC’s history. The decorated Army Sergeant fights in the promotions middleweight division and will soon fight Michael Bisping on April 16th in Quebec City, Quebec, Canada, in the TUF: Nations finale.
His previous fight was against Brazilian native Rafael Natal that the UFC Fight for the Troops show in November of last year. Kennedy was the clear favorite in the understandably biased crowd and had a lot of pressure to perform for fellow members of the armed forces.
In a scheduled five-round fight, Kennedy need just one, to create one of the most memorable and emotional moments of last year.
Taking advantage of an opening left by Natal, Kennedy lunged in with a left hook which connected and dropped Natal. Upon being pulled off by the referee, Kennedy jumped on to the cage and expressed his love for the audience while they responded with the chant “U.S.A.!” which has perhaps never been so aptly utilized.
