Last night’s WSOF 9 card was a landmark event for the promotion as a two new champions were crowned, one of which was an unsuccessful welterweight title defense as Steve Carl was submitted by Rousimar Palhares in just over a minute.
The co-main event was a bantamweight title fight in which new champion Marlon Moraes dominated from the get-go. He battered the leg of his opponent, Josh Rettinghouse. Although Rettinghouse lost, his heart and will in staying in the fight on two injured legs was incredible and he made it to a decision.
Another bout on the card was former welterweight title challenger Josh Burkman, who dismantled Tyler Stinson in his return to the cage. He lost to Steve Carl for the vacant welterweight belt last October but proved that he belongs in the upper echelon of the sport by dispatching Stinson with ease.
