Gina Carano Says She Is Very Open to MMA Return

(Gina Carano weighs in against Cyborg)

Gina Carano, the female mixed martial artist who put WMMA on the map many years ago, may still have one more fight left in her.

While speaking to Fox Sports, Carano, who is now a budding actor and has been featured in films like Fast and Furious 6, admitted that she has never completely hung up the gloves and would be willing to return to MMA under the right circumstances.”I’ve never retired. I’ve never officially said that,” Carano said. “For some reason a part of me has always kept it open. I don’t know, there’s a certain part of me that thinks if circumstances were right, and I could keep doing what I’m trying to make my future into, that’s an ideal world. If circumstances were right, you never know. I’m very open to it.”

While Carano is open to a return, the fighter played coy when asked about the rumors of a fight between her and current Womens MMA star Ronda Rousey. “I feel like I can’t say too much. I’ve got all this information that if I could just speak freely, this is actually what’s going on,” Carano teased.

Should Carano return, she wouldn’t do it just for the paycheck. She would return wanting to win and put everything she has into it. “I would definitely take something like that extremely seriously,” Carano said. “I would dedicate myself to it, and need the time because you’re taking somebody who hasn’t fought in a while, that hasn’t been in the fight camp-type environment; and it would have to be done in a time where there would be enough time for me to get ready for that and be able to support myself during that time because that’s all I’d be doing is taking that seriously, and it would take me away from other projects or potential projects that I’ve been working this far in my life to get to.

A potential Rousey vs. Carano fight would do huge numbers at the box office. If Carano is open to a return the UFC needs to fit whatever circumstances she is asking for to make the fight happen. While Rousey has said she will not accept a catchweight bout against Cristiane Justino, she did admit that she would fight at a catchweight for Carano.

Daniel Reveles
Born and raised in Santa Barbara, California, Daniel Reveles' interest in Mixed Martial Arts began at the age of fourteen while attending a Fantasy Football draft at a Friend's house. That day Daniel's buddies ordered UFC 88 on Pay-Per-View featuring lauded striker and hometown hero Chuck “The Iceman” Liddell squaring off with Division One Wrestler “Suga” Rashad Evans. After seeing “the wrestler” Rashad Evans put the Ice Man out cold with an overhand right, Daniel became instantly hooked by the unpredictability of the sport. Since that moment Daniel has become well versed in Mixed Martial Arts History and has yet to miss an event. Daniel is currently studying at the University of California Santa Barbara to receive his Bachelor's Degree in Communications with hopes of becoming the next big media mogul. When he is not watching MMA or studying you can find Daniel hanging out with his family and friends or taking in a game at the lovely Dodger Stadium.
