The heavyweight title is on the line at Bellator 115 as Vitaly Minakov (13-0) defends his belt for the first time against UFC veteran Cheick Kongo (20-8-2).
Minakov won the belt against Alexander Volkov back at Bellator 108 with a first round knockout. He earned his title shot with a Bellaot 2013 Summer Series tournament victory, finishing all three opponents leading up to his title fight.
Kongo left the UFC after a UFC 159 bout last April. He is still undefeated in Bellator and debuted in the organization with a TKO over Mark Godbeer and then defeated Peter Graham to earn his title shot.
The semi-finals for the Bellator season 10 welterweight tournament is on the main card as well as finalists Andrey Koreshkov (15-1) takes on Sam Oropeza (11-2). Both of these fighters won their opening round bouts at Bellator 112 against Nah-Shan Burrell and Cristiano Souza respectively.
The semi-finals of the middleweight tournament will provide the next contender to the title as Dan Cramer (10-4) takes on Jeremy Kimball (10-4). Kimball is a replacement for the still suspended Doug Marshall who was punished by the Pennsylvania State Athletic Commission after a failed drug test last year.
Bellator 115 takes place Friday, April 4th at the Reno Event Center in Reno, Nevada.
