The new UFC welterweight champion Johny Hendricks will be out of action for some time after he announced the news that he tore his bicep prior to his UFC 171 bout with Robbie Lawler.

Hendricks appeared on Los Angeles radio station KROQ, and the news itself was first shared by MMAFighting’s Ariel Helwani. According to the appearance, Hendricks will be sidelined for four weeks just for rehab and if that goes smoothly, he will have a minimum of two months before he can begin training again to defend his welterweight championship.

Hendricks won the bout regardless of the torn bicep and even sustained an injury to his shin during the fight, likely the product of one of the leg kicks he threw at Lawler.

The line of welterweights lining up for Hendricks’ first title defense is immense and even Nick Diaz has made his desire to return to the UFC known.
