Semi-retired UFC welterweight Nick Diaz has stated that he wants a title shot upon his return. He last fought Georges St-Pierre at UFC 158 and lost that fight via unanimous decision.
Diaz holds on to the notion that he is still the UFC’s biggest draw, though, and while he may not be totally wrong (at least in the division) given St-Pierre’s departure from the sport.
While he waits for the UFC to offer him a shot at the belt, Diaz appeared at the weigh-ins for UFC 171, a card rife with welterweight bouts including a title fight between Robbie Lawler and Johny Hendricks.
Hendricks and Lawler will try to claim the vacant belt Saturday night but their title fight almost went up in smoke as Hendricks came in at 171.5. For a title fight to be official, both participants must weigh in at the exact maximum weight for the division for Texas Department of Regulations and Licensing.
Lawler was able to make weight during a post-weigh-in visit to the scale where he came in even at 170-pounds. He was elated on stage while Diaz, who stood just off stage, heckled Hendricks.
A vine video posted by the UFC (below) shows Diaz calling out to Hendricks who was on the scale. Most of what Diaz yells is indecipherable but you can hear him shout, “you’re too heavy Johny”.
