A very strange series of events occurred at the UFC 171 weigh-ins as several fighters not only needed towels to make weight, but three of them actually missed weight on the initial try.
Those men were lightweight Renee Forte (157), and welterweights Kelvin Gastelum (172.5) and Johny Hendricks (171.5).
All three men were forced to try and lose the extra weight and Gastelum and Hendricks were able to do so. Forte, however could not and was forced to forfeit 20% of his purse to his opponent, Frank Trevino.
Hendricks’ came in at 171.5, just a half pound over weight but given that his fight in the main event of UFC 171 is a title bout, he had to come in at 170-pounds even, putting a halt on the excitement for a fantastic card, at least momentarily.
UFC president Dana White and the @UFCNews twitter account both tweeted confirmation of Hendricks’ revised weigh-in results.

Hendricks looked visibly shaken, understandably, when his weight was read over and over with Dana White and Burt Watson holding a towel around him. He said he did not expect to miss weight and though he had hit the mark but thankfully, he was able to do so in the allotted time.
