Welterweight Tournament Opening Round (170) Paul Bradley (21-5) vs Nathan Coy (13-4)

Round 1: Both fighters land over hand hooks early then Coy landed a slick left to scramble Bradley’s brain cells but Paul rebounded only to take a kick to the cup which gave him a slight breather. Nathan continues to land that sneaky left. Coy continues to circle and buy real estate on Paul’s face with his left that can’t seem to miss. Bradley and Coy are both cut over their left eyes. Coy began to establish his right jab to go along with his left straight. The two division 1 standout wrestlers end the round on their feet.

Round 2: Bradley came in early with quick punches but is answered right away by Coy’s stellar left. Paul’s face has been picked off more then Eli Manning at this point and Coy lands again to set up a takedown. Bradley is quickly back on his feet to finish off the round.

Round 3: The game of “face-tag” continues with Nathan winning. Bradley has sustained two cuts to his face, both on the left eye and alot of blood is flowing around it. Bradley can only throw clubbing  blows it seems as his face resembles a pin cushion. Coy rushes for a takedown against the fence and got it as the final bell sounded shortly after.

Official Result: Nathan Coy defeats Paul Bradley via Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)

Welterweight Bout: Jesse Jaurez (21-8) vs. Adam McDonough (6-0)

Round 1: Both fighters come out somewhat tentative then Juarez closes the distance and worked for a take down against the fence. McDonough tries to get out but turns into a head-arm choke by Jesse that was almost sunk in but Adam was able to weasel out. Juarez wrestles Adam against the fence once more. As Jesse tried harder and harder for the take down Adam reversed and was able to land in full mount but landed little to nothing to end the round.

Round 2: Adam quickly comes out and stops a shooting takedown attempt to land on Juarez in north-south position. McDonough then transitions his postion to Jesse’s guard then to half guard. Adam lands knees to the side of Juarez on the ground but Jesse quickly regained his footing and stood back up. Both fighters swung wildly until Jesse shot for a takedown once again. Adam forces Jesse down and lands shots to his ribcage while the bell sounds to end the 2nd round.

Round 3: Out of the gate Adam lands a knee buckling leg kick that dropped Juarez and Adam took his back. McDonough then secures both his hooks and flattened Jesse out to secure a full back mount then switched to a body triangle. Juarez lands some shots by throwing from his back and got back to his feet while he was able to separate and Juarez landed a quick take down then McDonough gets up only to be taken down again and this time Jesse takes his back. Adam postures to send Jesse into his guard while Juarez hunts for different submissions then loses his position to Mcdonough who rained down blows to end the fight.

Official Result:   Adam McDonough defeats Jesse Juarez  via Unanimous Decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)

Welterweight Bout: Cristiano Souza (6-0) vs. Sam Orepeza (10-2)

Round 1: Souza failed right away attempting a rare scissor takedown and they both traded dominant position along the fence. Sam lands a nice kick to the body and pursued Souza to the ground. Orpeza took Souza’s back but both regained their footing shortly after. Sam Orpeza then landed a “Smoking Joe” like right hand and Souza’s lights and conciousness went out.  Orpeza landed three more strikes for good measure and Referee Rob Madrigal jumps in to halt the bout and Souza’s undefeated record.

Official Result: Sam Orpeza defeats Cristiano Souza via TKO 3:07 of Round 1

Welterweight Bout: Nah-Shon Burrell (10-3) vs. Andrey Koreshkov (14-1)

Official Result: Andrey Koreshkov defeats Nah-Shon Burrell via TKO :41 of Round 1

Highly passionate MMA Journalist, and I've followed the sport ever since my favorite fighter, Vitor Belfort won the heavyweight tournament at UFC 12. After that I've tried to go to every local MMA event around the Gulf Coast and surrounding areas and decided to make it a point to have a career in some aspect in the fighting sport other than fighting in general (didn't want to ruin my face). I'm currently enrolled at Southeastern Louisiana University working towards a degree in Communication. I cover MMA, Boxing and Football for The Daily Star newspaper in my hometown of Hammond, Louisiana, in addition to working as a promotional writer for a local Boxing promotion known as BoxnCar and I cover boxing for 8countnews.com however SciFighting.com is my home. My main goal is to bring more publicity to MMA in my area and to the sport as a whole as all of us involved with the sport are merely scratching the surface and laying the foundation of what mixed martial arts competition will be further down the road.
