Watch the complete Countdown to UFC 171 video with all three parts.
The first part is the main event to crown the first new welterweight champion since 2006 as Johny Hendricks (15-2) takes on Robbie Lawler (22-9, 1 NC).
Hendricks’ last fight was against former champ Georges St-Pierre and despite a great performance against ‘Rush’, Hendricks was not given the belt in the most controversial decision in recent memory, especially for such a high profile fight.
For Lawler, a career resurgence is an understatement. After migrating from Strikeforce once Zuffa acquired the promotion, Lawler tore in to the UFC’s welterweight division, first with a TKO over perennial top-10 welterweight Josh Koscheck. His second fight in his return to the Octagon was a TKO over Bobby Voelker and his latest, an upset over Rory MacDonald in a fight that Lawler showed his worth and potential.
Part 2 highlights the co-main event between two welterweights on the cusp of a title shot. Carlos Condit (29-7) will vie for another title shot since losing to St-Pierre back in 2012. This time a new champ will sit atop the division, awaiting his potential arrival. His opponent, Tyron Woodley (12-2) is 2-1 in the UFC with his two wins adding to his highlight reel as he knocked out Josh Koscheck and Jay Hieron, both in the first round.
Part three is a featured lightweight bout between UFC veteran Diego Sanchez (24-6) and up-and-coming prospect Myles Jury (13-0). The win in this fight is needed for reasons that stand at polar opposites of one another but the desire of both men to do so will make this fight a can’t miss affair.
