UFC Fight Night 37 Preliminary Card Results

Before Alexander Gustaffson and Jimi Manuwa go to battle, catch all of the UFC Fight Night 37 preliminary card results here on SciFighting.com.

Headlining the prelims is a light-heavyweight bout between Cyrille Diabaté and Ilir Latifi. This bout will be Diabaté’s last as a professional mixed martial artist as the MMA and kickboxing veteran announced that he will retire after the bout. Latifi will be looking to notch his first UFC win against Diabaté. The Swede was last seen in a makeshift main event, losing a unanimous decision to Gegard Mousasi.

Also on the preliminary card is a middleweight bout between Ultimate Fighter Veteran Luke Barnatt and UFC newcomer Mats Nilsson. Barnatt opened many eyes with his last performance, dominating Andrew Craig before submitting him in the second round. Nilsson enters the UFC with an impressive 11-2-1 record which includes a win over Ultimate Fighter 6 finalist Tom Speer.

Also of note is the loss of the Davey Grant vs. Roland Delorme bout. Both men made weight without error yesterday, but had the bout pulled due to a Grant knee injury. The preliminary card will continue with five bouts.

Preliminary Card (UFC Fight Pass), 12:55 PM ET/9:55 AM PT

Flyweight Bout: Phil Harris (22-12, 1 NC) vs. Louis Gaudinot (7-3)

Round 1: The fighters touch em up to start the card. Fast start by both men. Harris shoots for a takedown but gets stuffed against the cage. Gaudinot searching for a guillotine but Harris works his head out of it. Fighters working for position against the cage. Harris lifts Gaudinot up looking for a single leg but Gaudinot locks up the Guillotine! Harris slams Gaudinot but can’t escape the choke. Gaudinot transitions to mount and Harris taps. Great rebound for Gaudinot.

Result: Louis Gaudinot def. Phil Harris via Submission (Guillotine Choke) at 1:13 of round one. 

Welterweight Bout: Igor Araujo (25-6) vs. Danny Mitchell (14-5)

Round 1: Araujo starts the bout with a head kick and spinning kick. Araujo shoots for a single leg takedown but gets reversed. Mitchell looking to pass Araujo’s guard. Araujo sweeps Mitchell and ends up in his opponent’s guard. Araujo works his way into mount, but Mitchell is able to quickly push Araujo back to his guard. Mitchell searching for a leg lock. Mitchell transitions to a toe-hold then to a heel hook, but can’t lock it up. Araujo escapes and transitions to Mitchell’s half-guard. Mitchell is throwing heavy elbows from the bottom but is eating shots from Araujo as well. Mitchell tries to lock up a triangle but has his attempt thwarted. The round ends there. SciFighting scores the round 10-9 Mitchell.

Round 2: Mitchell and Araujo open up the round exchanging kicks. Mitchell lands a nice kick to the body. Araujo shoots for a takedown and ends up in Mitchell’s half-guard after a small scramble. Araujo landing sporadic ground and pound. Araujo looking to lock up a d’arce choke but abandons it quickly. Mitchell works Araujo back into his guard. Araujo stands then transitions down into side-control. Mitchell turns and gives up his back. Mitchell turns, gets to his feet, and pushes Araujo to the fence. Knees to the legs of Araujo. Mitchell tries a flying triangle but fails. Araujo ends the round working from Mitchell’s guard. SciFighting scores the round 10-9 Araujo (19-19 overall).

Round 3: The fighters touch gloves to start the third. Mitchell pushing forward looking for a finish. Araujo counters with a high kick. Araujo pushes Mitchell back to the fence. Araujo pulls guard and tries to lock up a triangle choke! Elbows from Araujo as he looks for the choke. Araujo switches to an omaplata but Mitchell escapes. Mitchell tries for a leg lock, but Araujo is in no danger. Mitchell is torquing but Araujo just bashes his face with ground and pound. The fighters just start throwing Donkey Kong blows at each other for about twenty seconds. The round ends there. SciFighting scores the round 10-9 Araujo and the fight 29-28 Araujo.

Result: Igor Araujo def. Danny Mitchell via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)

Middleweight Bout: Brad Scott (9-3) vs. Cláudio Henrique da Silva (10-1)

Round 1: Silva starts  the bout out pushing forward for a takedown, but takes an uppercut to the face in the process. The men re-engage in the center and are absolutely going for it. Silva lands a single leg takedown directly into half-guard. Scoot tries to sit up but lets Silva work into mount. Silva lands a few punches but Scott works his way back into half-guard. Silva tries for a signle leg takedown but gets stuffed. Scott pushing forward looking for a big shot, but eats a looping left hand from Silva. Scoot lands a hard punch to the body. Silva circling around the outside of the cage. Scott lands a nice jab but gets poked in the eye for his troubles. The referee calls time. The fight resumes with Silva landing a great head kick. Silva shoots for another single leg takedown and lands it. Silva ends the round in half-guard. SciFighting scores the round 10-9 Silva.

Round 2: Scott opens the round with a couple of nice jabs. Silva opening up with flashy kicks and a huge left hand lands. Silva looks for a takedown but gets stuffed. Scott lands a hard right and is looking to pounce. Silva uses Scott’s momentum to push him against the cage. Scott circles off the cage. Scott lands a hard straight left. Silva says he took a kick to the groin but the referee says that the kick didn’t land south of the belt. Scott tries to pounce but Silva tries to call time out. Scott lands a hard punch to the body that hurts Silva. Scott looking for the finish. Silva tries to pull guard but Scott has none of it. Silva looks tired. Scott pushes forward with a 1-2 combination. Silva tries to get a single leg takedown but gets sprawled. Scott lands a leaping left hook. Straight right form Scott. Silva pushes Scott against the cage. Scott reverses position and rends the round landing a straight left and kick to the body. SciFighting scores the round 10-9 Scott (19-19 overall).

Round 3: Lead left from Scott opens the round. Silva shoots for a single leg takedown but can’t land it. Scott regains the center of the Octagon. Straight right from Scott briefly stuns Silva. Scott jumps forward looking for a left left hook but gets poked in the eye. The referee calls time. Silva comes in off the break and looks for a takedown against the cage. Scott goes down and gives up his back. Scott tries to stand but Silva is latched on. Silva falls off the top and Scott lands a shot from Silva’s guard. Silva looking for a kneebar. Silva ditches the submission and turns into Scott’s half-guard. 1:30 left in the round. Silva landing left hands to Scott’s face. Scott works his way up against the cage. Silva tries for a single leg takedown but transitions into a knee bar attempt. The round ends with Silva transitioning into Scott’s half-guard. SciFighting scores the round 10-9 Silva and the fight 29-28 Silva.

Result: Cláudio Henrique da Silva def. Brad Scott via unanimous decision (29-28,29-28,29-28).

 

Middleweight Bout: Luke Barnatt (8-0) vs. Mats Nilsson (11-3-1)

Round 1: Barnatt opens up the fight working his jab. He has a huge reach advantage over Nilsson. Nilsson is swinging at air here. Barnett grabs a Thai clinch but can’t do much with it. Nilsson rocks Barnatt with punches! Barnatt recovers. Barnatt landing solid combinations. Nilsson pushes Barnatt against the cage. Barnatt circles out. Barnatt landing great 1-2 combos. Nilsson’s right eye is beginning to swell shut. Barnatt with a nice knee in the Thai clinch. Nilsson breaks out of the clinch. Barnatt with  a nice head kick. Superman punch and head kick combo rock Nilsson! Barnatt demolishes Nilsson against the cage with punches and seals the deal with a knee. Impressive performance by Barnatt.

Result: Luke Barnatt def. Mats Nilsson via TKO (punches and knee) at 4:24 of round one.

Light Heavyweight Bout: Cyrille Diabaté (20-9-3) vs. Ilir Latifi (8-3)

Round 1: The fighters touch gloves to start the bout. Both men tentative a minute into the bout. Latifi easily lands a takedown. Latifi moves to half guard and tries for a d’arce choke. Diabate escapes. Latifi starts to throw shots from half-guard. Diabate tries to get up and Latifi tries to lock up the d’arce choke again. This one looks tight. Diabate taps! Tough way for Diabate to end his career. Great performance from Latifi.

Result: Ilir Latifi def. Cyrile Diabaté via Submission (D’arce choke) at 3:02 of round one.
