The main event of Bellator 111 was a bantamweight title fight between Eduardo Dantas and Anthony Leone. Leone was a late replacement in this bout but he was determined to win Bellator gold. He had the toughest test of his career however against Eduardo Dantas who was trying to defend his title for the second time.
Round 1: Anthony Leone caught a kick of Dantas and tripped him to the mat. Dantas kept trying to get his legs in the right position to armbar Leone but he couldn’t get in the right spot. Leone stuck in his guard and built some much-needed on confidence in the beginning of the fight. Leone controlled Dantas and hit him with a few elbows from the top to finish what was surely his round.
Round 2: Dantas had an advantage in the striking department. Leone tried to take him down again but couldn’t in the first half of the round. Dantas opened up a lot more on the feet and began to mix his shots up. The second real takedown attempt from Leone gave Dantas the back with a slick and beautiful transition as he stepped over the head of a turtled up Leone and got right in to the choke. . He locked in a rear-naked choke and finished Leone off.
Official Decision: Eduardo Dantas defeats Anthony Leone via Submission (rear-naked choke) at 2:04 of Round 2 to retain the Bellator bantamweight championship.
