Count Cain Velasquez as another MMA fighter gone Hollywood.

The current UFC Heavyweight Champion has signed on to appear in the upcoming Universal Studios film “Term Life” according to a report from Variety.com. Check out the film’s plot courtesy of Variety below:

The story follows a man who plans and sells heists to the highest bidder, but when his latest job goes horribly wrong he finds himself hunted by everyone he knows — mob bosses, contract killers and dirty cops. With no way out, Nick does the only thing he can think of to help his estranged daughter Cate — he takes out a life insurance policy on himself with her as the beneficiary.

It’s a great plan until he finds out the policy doesn’t take effect for 21 days. Now Nick is forced to take Cate on the run and keep them both alive while trying to be a father for the very first time.

Velasquez is slated to play “the right hand man of the mob boss out to get Vaughn’s character.”

Velasquez is following in the footsteps of his fellow MMA fighters Gina Carano, Ronda Rousey, and Randy Couture into the mainstream film industry which is nothing but good for MMA. The more people who know the name “Cain Velasquez” the better.

While the news is nothing but good for MMA, there is still one question left: Can Cain Velasquez act? Velasquez is one of the least popular champions in the UFC. Many attribute his lack of popularity to his very conservative and dull personality. If Velasquez is unable to capture the attention of the fans in his interviews, how is he going to be able to play a believable mobster on the big screen?

To get a short glimpse into Velasquez’s acting skill, take a look at a short sketch starring the fighter below:

“Term Life” is scheduled to be released at some point in 2015. It is currently unknown if the filming schedule will interfere Velasquez’s next bout.
