UFC officials announced today that they would return to Germany to host an event on May 31st. What sticks out about the announcement is the fact that the TUF: Brasil 3 Finale will take place on the same day.
No fights have been made official for the German card (UFC Fight Night 41) but the TUF: Brazil Finale will be headlines by a fight between Chael Sonnen and Wanderlei Silva.
UFC Fight Night 41 takes place at the O2 Arena in World Arena in Berlin,. Germany
“We are incredibly excited to announce this event and it is fantastic news for the many UFC fans throughout Germany and the rest of Europe,” Executive Vice President and Managing Director of EMEA, Garry Cook, said.
As with most European events, the event in Germany will likely take place in the early afternoon here in the states with the Brazil card airing later that night in a more normal slot.
“We are delighted to be returning to Germany in May and visiting Berlin for the first time. Germany is one of the leading world superpowers in sport and to be able to host a UFC Fight Night to our passionate German fans will be an honor.”
It will have been almost four years since the UFC’s last trip to Germany as it brought the free-tv airing of UFC 122 there last in 2010. That card was headlined by a middleweight bout between Yushin Okami and Nate Marquardt.
While the UFC has held events on two consecutive days, this will be the first time they hold two on the same day. In their return to Japan at UFC 144, there were rumors that they would be holding two events on that day given the time zone difference but nothing came to fruition.
