TUF China Final-Welterweight Bout: Wang Sai (7-5-1) vs. Zhang Lipeng (8-7-1)
Round 1: Both men open up the fight in the orthodox stance. Zhang wings a big overhand right that misses. Both men trading heavy leg kicks. Zhang lands a straight right. More leg kicks form both men. Zhang shoots for a takedown and moves into side control. Wang tries to get to his feet but gives up his back in the process. Zhang locks up the body triangle from the back. Zhang nearly locks up a rear-naked choke, but Wang escapes. That was close, Wang’s face started to turn purple. Wang reverses position, gets into Zhang’s guard, and lands a few hard elbows. Wang postured up and threw a diving punch which nearly resulted in him getting caught in a triangle choke. Wang was able to reverse position and take Zhang’s back. Both men had very similar offensive output but SciFighting scores the round 10-9 for Zhang due to his near submission.
Round 2: Wang opens up the second round with kicks to Zhang’s legs and body. Zhang shoots for a takedown but nearly finds himself on bottom. Zhang stands and pushes Wang to the cage. Wang lands a few Travis Browne elbows with his back against the cage. Zhang shoots for a takedown and Wang sprawls. Wang lands a glancing illegal knee which causes a brief timeout. The fight resumes and Zhang lands an immediate takedown. Wang gets to his feet against the cage, but Wang takes his back. Zhang slams Wang to the floor and looks to get both of his looks in. Zhang gets the hooks, but Wang reverses position and ends up in half-guard. Zhang pushes Wang back into his guard. The round ends without much significant offense. Round 3: Zhang shoots for a takedown to start the round but gets stuffed. Wang transitions and moves into Zhang’s guard. Zhang working from mission control. The referee stands the fighters up. Zhang shoots for another takedown, but gets stuffed. Wang transitions to Zhang’s back , but Zhang reverses position and ends up in Wang’s guard. Zhang tried to move to mount, but Wang just slipped away and got to his feet. Another takedown from Zhang that gets stuffed. Wang in full guard. The referee stands the fighters up again with ten seconds left. The men throw huge punches to end the round. SciFighting scores the round 10-9 Wang and the fight 29-28 Zhang.
